It's extremely important to get relevant backlinks. Especially with all the junk backlink spitting softwares out there.

      1. Research the niche your website intends to dominate.
      2. Use SEO Tools to determine what backlinks your competitors (Page 1 Rankholders for your niche/keywords) are getting. Get your own backlinks from those sources
      3. Submit your website to Search Engines/Social Bookmarking sites
      4. Write/Outsource & get original/unique articles relating to your niche and post them on article directories, with the author box containing links to your main website.
      5. Submit to blog directories.
      6. Research and collect upto 50 blogs relating to your niche and get backlinks in the form of comments (Please post relevant comments so that the webmaster does not take down your comments) - This can be done manually or automated through many softwares.

These are few steps you can take.

All the above can be done by you directly (Free, but takes time) or can be outsourced to a professional seo expert/co. (Costs money, but does not take your time)

Hey, great information. Question: Is it wise to submit only 2-3 articles to the Blog Directories per day? I heard somewhere that if you submit more than 2-3/day google picks up on that, and it looks too unnatural resulting in google viewing it as spam.. What are your thoughts on that?

          Hi Kumaris,

Google does not discover all your articles on all the blog directories at once. It discovers them as and when it crawls the pages of all the blog directories.

There is no fixed number that we can say is ok to submit. Try and mix it up a bit.
The quality of the articles also is a major factor. If all the articles you submit are unique, then why will google have a problem with unique content. But, on the other hand, if the same article is spun and submitted, the uniqueness achieved is not even close to a completely unique article. There, it may be advisable to submit with less frequency.

You can easily vary the number of articles, the number of blog directories you submit to, whether you submit, daily, weekly or monthly, the articles itself
But it is important not to overdo anything.

          Cheers!

just followed one of the suggestion of Cloud, submitting to blog directories... it's laborious and time consuming. Was able to submit to 3-4 blog directories in an hour of tedious registration.
