The question you should be asking is: how long will backlinks from PBN's be effective?

I could create a bunch of PBN links and reach page one for most KW's in no time, but it's just too short term a strategy.

Several of my sites received the dreaded 'unnutural links notice' and lost all their rankings overnight. I had more than 100 keywords on page one, spread over several sites and the main power ranking the sites was PBN's.

PBN's are effective in the short term but are extremely dangerous long term. You may receive benefit for a month or even a few months but eventually your site will be slapped.

Really private blog networks are amazing both short & long term. But you may need to build one yourself.

Pretty broad question you're asking allsystems!

It really depends on the network itself and the footprints they leave. Like bnetwork said private blog network are, of course, more safe (in a way) than big network such as ALN and BMR, but it comes with a price. Would I use ALN/BMR as my only backlink strategy? Hell no! But they are still effective if you use them properly. Having a "network" will always be riskier than getting backlink from various sources that has no relations together, but it really is a risk-reward correlation.

Hmm,il have to do more research. Im not going to do anything to jeopardise my site. I know that I can suffer a penalty if google detects unnatural links

I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.. although they may work, its far too easy to get caught which isn't part of my long term goal.

"only a matter of time" would ring in my head all day long.
