About the future of search engine

Actually Google is the leader, with no real alternative for users, therefore for webmasters.

Happy when we are in his top, he can also kill a business overnight.

I think in the future, facebook will come to this important market, with other data for his algo.

What is your opinion about this?

Personally, I think it will be the next major change in the web market.

  • I don't know the answer to this question BUT search will always be search and there will always be ways to use search engines to make money as long as one offers relevant content/products. I think facebook will remain more of an advertising and marketing tool than an organic search engine.
  • Yahoo and Bing are decent search engine, but Google is crushing them.

I do not know what you mean by Facebook will come to this important market with other data for his algo. Can you explain?
  • Google can't possibly kill your business unless you're myopic enough to become heavily or totally reliant on its traffic. One can diversify one's traffic sources and bask in the sweet glory of long-term stability and peace of mind, or else live in fear of the consequences.

(Facebook may have a search facility but it is not a search engine and I don't see it becoming one any time soon.)
  • jamesrich1 > Bing and Yahoo are actually search engines but they are not really used. Facebook is really in the lives of users, in habits like google. Facebook has a lot of navigation data can lead to a new algorithm. Imagine Facebook in partnership with bing or yahoo to launch a true competitor ...

Direstraits > Of Course, no one should depend solely on google traffic, but that is the case for many sites.
  • Nobody wants the presence of a new search engine? Google has long dominated and I think this may be the next big change in the internet business!
  • Facebook is not working out really well as a search alternative to Google.

In fact sales are not really taking off on facebook in general and certainly it is not really working for any serious search

Here are some articles which show that facebook is actually performing really poorly as a sales chanel:

  • Chances are, knowing that Facebook is the leading network nowadays both for entertainment and business, but only time can tell. For me it's too early to say a word.
