Using Document Sharing Sites For Rank/Backlink Building: Effective?

Hi,

I'd like to know if anyone has seen results from using document sharing sites to build backlinks, especially in recent months now that a lot more people are doing it and it has become a bit more mainstream.

I'm asking because I was considering adding this approach into everything else I'm doing, but I have used AHREFS to check the backlinks of quite a few of the niche sites I've found promoting themselves via the document sites, and so far not one of them has shown any of the document sharing sites in their backlink profiles.

Since I have seen no evidence that any of these people are successfully creating backlinks in this way, then I would be interested to hear from those who have tried it (preferably those not pushing a product to automate the task) and whether the results were worthwhile.

    These document sharing sites help to build the social signal for a website. And social signal is one of the major criteria for SERP ranking. So submitting to these sites actually helps your website ranking indirectly, although you may not see the backlinks directly.

      Presumably though you would need to upload a document format that can provide clickable links such as MS Word or PDF? Would uploading a text file with a URL help at all??
