Is submitting to web directories ok for SEO and backlink purposes?

Im submitting my site to quality, human reviewed web directories to help with backlink purposes and SEO. Is this an acceptable SEO building practise, and are web directories normally held in good repute so there will be no repurcussions from me doing this? I will only be submitting to high PR web directories and those that show quality.

    the don't have the value like the previous days.
    but they have a good value still now. don't over do it just make some specific and selected directory links. they will be helpful.

    Listing in a quality directory with fewer outbound links per page and also with a dedicated page for your site should help boost your site. Add as much relevant content into the description of the listing which in turn will pass that relevancy back to your site via the link on dedicated page.

    Most of the directories are low quality directories. They won't approve or reject the links. You can see some thousand of pending links in their directories. However submission in some good quality directories will worth to get higher ranking.

    Instead of mass submitting, pick out the ones that have good PR and are aged for atleast 5 years and more. Also check on the directory's domain authority and your category's authority. Its better to get a few good links than waste your time on 100's of directory links that will add no value and make it seem spammy.

    Directories are always very helpful to get permanent backlinks.All those backlinks helps to maintain stability of website's ranking.So is very necessary to submit website link on quality web directories.There are lot of web directories are available but we should focus only on quality and human edited web directories.
