Getting Your Competitor Google Slapped?

This is my first post, so please be kind

I'm getting the impression that building links too quickly will get you "slapped". Then, does this apply if you built links to your competitors site? I mean, for a very small investment, you could pay someone to build thousands of poor quality links to your competitors site and get them "slapped" so you can move up in the rankings?

What are everyone's thoughts?

  • Better than this taking risk, you could pay the same amount for some quality and reputed back links for your web site.
  • Make your own site better and you won't need to slap down your competitors just to get ahead.
  • Yes, this has worked for several people recently. You want to use the same keyword for the spam. I suggest you pick a keyword that your competitor uses but that you don't, that way if the attempt fails your competitor doesn't end up outranking you in anything important to you.

    If they get slapped it happens for all keywords.
  • It is not possible. this is very bad thinking... please dont try to do this...let Internet clean.
    Do hard work on your website rather than to destroy your's competitor's website.
  • Ohh no I don't want to do this. I was just questioning how serious Google is about building back-links too quickly. As we all know, there are many dodgy people out their and all your hard work could be thrown away because someone made Google slap your site.

    Better have some deep pockets because for every guy you knock down & make his page bounce in the SERPs two more competition will step up.

    You need to decide, are you going to finance your competitions backlinks, or are you going to finance your own links.

    • It's definitely a viable option. If the niche your in is paying out decent ROI then the cost of Google Bowling a competitor is negligible. I destroyed a 10 year old site that had 25,000 natural backlinks for less than $200 using private blog network links at a rate of 200 links a day for two months.

    • You should definitely believe in because it's possible. Whether you should do it or not is another matter.

      Morals aside, the complete ranking plan for 2012 should include a budget for tanking the competition.
  • IMHO, if you repeat the anchor text enough, especially from sitewide links, you can tank a competitors keywords.
