Hi is it worth paying a couple of hundred dollars for a domain a couple of years old with a few links to it spotted on domainface ?
I heard that any value from doing this can be wiped out when the hosting and whois details change ?
Does anyone have any real life experience (not just speculation) of this ?

Hi, sure it is a very good investment even more if your domain has some relation with the keywords you want to compete.

  • Absolutely. About four months ago I bought a domain ranked page 1 position 1 for a term that gets searched for frequently, but not in a huge volume. I took the site, added content, and instantly had a site ranking for a few terms. It's also easier to take an old domain and pump it up than a scratch domain, but you can do it with both. To some degree it depends on your competition too.

It is all up to what they domain was used for before. If it was just bought and held onto for years and nothing was done with it, then you are basically getting a new domain. Even though it was in existence for a long time means nothing. If the domain was used, make sure that you try to stay as true to the domain as possible so that you can reap the benefits of having an aged domain.

Yes, old domains do have an advantage, especially if they have aged backlinks already pointing to them.

If your business is relevant to the domain which you are going to purchase, then purchasing a old domain can help you.

Depends really on I guess the keywords you would be targeting and whether or not it is worth the cash outlay.

All things equal though, aged is better than not.
