Those who say backlinking is dead are severely misinformed.
This just proves that high PR links from blog posts with contextual links work very well. Not only do they work now, but they will work for a while to come.
Google could have easily discounted these types of links and therefore turned BMR redundent, but the fact that BMR was manually taken down means that these types of blog links are extremely powerful for your website to have.
It is always great to see these sorts of drastic measures from Google, it allows us to learn what it values and how we can focus our strategies towards pleasing Google that little bit more.
