I have been searched for a good domain, and one of my favorite .com domain is taken
,but still available in the version of .org.
My question is what would google prefer?(I mean if I do the other seo stuff correctly too, like backlinking using relevant domain to my business, etc.)
Should I take the .org version or rather should search for an other .com
name?
Thanks for help

Choose another com. EMD are important but you can find a variation of your keyword.

Not a huge fan of .org but I've seen enough of them ranked number 1 so I guess it's your call and how important branding is for this particular project.

According to Google, Matt Cutts - Domain extensions simply don't affect SEO at all.

You mean according to Matt Cutts...not Google

Matt Cutts rarely gives information that goes in depth on how Google actually weighs domains and sites. He does give away some basic information, but that is all.

For example, when targeting a specific country other than the US, domain extensions for that given country are obviously given more weight.

This is true, but if you get/use a country-code level extension (.tv, .cc, .fm, etc.) Google may soon change how/where those sites are listed depending on what country the visitor submitting the search engine query to Google is from.

So if you're in Germany, and you're using a ".de" extension, you may be given higher search engine placement for Germany visitors (assuming that Google finds your content relevant, etc.).

      keep movin'...

Thank You for those honest opinions,I hope I get more advice from warrior members on this topic.
Also how about .us and .biz extension at the rankings?
Also is it wise to register a domain with .us extension, if I'm not originally from US,but mainly hope to get more US. visitors?

I would go with .org instead.

Sure I've seen .biz, .us, .info and .co rank fairly well for some keywords. But it seemed to take more backlinking for them to rank. Also, visitors are more familiar with .com, .net and .org domains.

However, if .com, .net and .org are taken for an EMD then you may want to go with another extension.

In your case, you mentioned that .org was available. This will work just fine unless you're trying to go for a branded domain. I would recommend a .com in that case, but it's your call.

What would be the better choice for higher ranking(if I try to do other seo stuff right too)

A TLD has nothing to do with SEO.

Dot com is overrated. Its not big difference if you choose to use .org,
    .net, etc. Take .org

    How about .co ?
So extension does not count at all?Becuse I heard that only .com gets good placement, but now a large amount of .com is taken lately. So I actually can go with .co
with the exact same chances for good seo placement?
Why everyone is crazy about to get a good .com name when people can just choose the same name with co?(Even sounds similar to .com)
So I just don't understand with all of the bother like getting a longtale .com domain instead of a nice short .co domain
Still is the question:. .co or .org

You can go with whatever you like best, the TLD has nothing to do with SEO.

Examples that TLD has nothing to do with SEO:

      speed test (.net TLD)
      pr checker (.info TLD)

Both the .net & .info TLDs above are ranking #1 in Google SERPs.

Also, EMDs have nothing to do with SEO, so don't get hooked on EMDs thinking it will keep you from having to do real SEO.

I'll pick the .org one while it's still available.
EMD with .com / .net / .org pretty much will be my first choice.
