Keyword stuffing question

I am writing an article for a coupon site (for example) and I have 3 to 8 keyword phrases I am targeting that all have the word "coupons" in them. If I use all eight phrases, it will appear that the term "coupons" has been stuffed in the article. I understand that because of that, the term "coupons" will most likely not rank (and that is ok, it's too tough anyway).
My question is: Will the fact that the term "coupons" is overly used affect my ranking for the long tail keywords that I want to rank for such as "how to use coupons" or "use coupons properly" or "we use coupons" since each of these keywords will only be used in the article once each?

Thanks

  • Please tell us you aren't trying to rank by explaining how to use coupons?

    • I have no idea what you are trying to say by your statement but I happen to have a website that ranks for that term. Regardless, I was giving those keywords merely as examples and your response doesn't address my question.
  • Hey bro to answer your question real quick...

Keyword density is important but dont over do it. Google just announced that they are going to start penalizing websites that "over optimze".

So just make sure that you are doing enough to make the "boy" understand what you are targeting. But not to much that you appear to be over optimizing for the keyword or that could hurt your ability to move up in the serps how you want.

    • Do you have the source please?

  • I never write by throwing together a string of keywords, but I do try to work in the keywords I am trying to rank for. I am not the best writer in the world but my stuff is written a lot better gramatically and contains more useful information than the majority of stuff I come acoss when I am browsing the net.
