When using googles keyword search, if it says low for key words that get a great deal of searches a month, is that misleading? basically when you see a .2 or whatever the number is for the tooltip, is that the same for keywords that get far less traffic, or is the competition rating relative to the volume?

  • The competition column/bar in Google Adwords Keyword Tool is NOT the competition to rank for that keyword, it is the competition of the advertisers bidding on that keyword for their Adwords campaign.

    • so why bother using google keyword search, just to check search volume? Or how can you check competition short of googling the keywords and checking the top results and their backlinks etc...you know what I mean? most keywords will return millions of results anyway.
  • Google Adwords Keyword Tool is good for selecting potential keywords to use.

However, to check how competitive those keywords are, you either need to manually inspect the top 10 results to check their onpage SEO and check the number of quality of backlinks.

Alternatively, you can use software like Traffic Travis, Market Samurai or my personal preference is SECockpit.
  • According to me Google Adwords is a best tool for keywords search.
