[ASK] Does SEO-ing the Subfolder will affect the root domain?

Hi guys, I'd like to ask 2 questions :
I have a major local website, and I've made several micro niche sites from its subfolders (since it has a very good organic traffic), i.e. mysite.com/niche1 and mysite.com/niche2. The most traffic so far, comes from the mother site, mysite.com.
I want to leverage the subfolders traffic even more and I already have its on-page optimized. My question is : the backlink part.
Q1. If I spread the backlinks (with anchor keywords) pointing to my subfolder, mysite.com/niche....will the root domain (mysite.com) gets the SEO juice as well?
Q2. Or, should I do the reverse, spreading the backlinks to the mother site. and if I do so, will the subfolder sites get the SEO juice by itself?
