My "New" Backlinking Strategy

Maybe the idea will help others get relevant backlinks.

Just recently I completed my first ebook/report (only 12 pages) that I'm giving away on my related websites. Like most others, it's PDF. I personally prefer Desktop Author, but since PDF seems to be the standard for quite some time, I will go with that format.

I don't like distributing other people's works with all the obvious backlinks to their offers and products and I'm sure a lot of others also prefer not making others rich, so my ebooks will be only informational to the reader, with no apparent backlinks.

BUT.... buried within the text, some of the relevant keywords ARE linked back to my websites. What I did, was remove the underlining of the link, and change the link color from blue to black. I created the ebook in Office (MS Word will work too), because it allows me to easily "export to PDF."

Now, I have an ebook to freely give away on my sites (they're all the same broad niche) with invisible backlinks to my sites. In the ebook I state that the ebook may be freely distributed. I want to do it, not to use the books to sell anything, but just to offer free information on my topics and to get free backlinks.

    Mmm so this is a method you're using specifically for traffic.

      It's only to get relevant backlinks from other related websites to boost me in the serps.

      My sites are in a health niche. I'm hoping others in the same niche will find the booklet useful enough to offer it on THEIR health related website. Because I removed the underlining and the blue link color, the backlinks to my sites are not obvious unless you, by chance, hover your mouse over the few keywords in the document. Some may not know that you can retain the link without the blue color or the underlining in a PDF document.

    How does google find these backlinks if they're in the pdf ?

    People will copy/paste the info onto their website and the backlink will stick?

      PDF documents count. I'm just hoping people will offer the free "ebooks" on their sites if they're in a related niche. It's just something a webmaster can offer his/her readers. If they place the documents on their sites, Google will find them and the backlinks will count. The reader sees no backlinks, but google will.

      I'll start by putting the ebooks on some of the ebook "libraries". Hopefully, people will find them and see that they can give them away on their websites.

        That would entirely depend on how the website owner decides to deliver the PDF. It could be sent through email and never published to their site.

        Certainly can help with direct traffic though.

      ah yes that makes sense i guess

      though i cant see someone linking to a pdf like that, surely they would just link to the pdf from where they got it from

        The idea is not that people link to the pdf but when they upload it to their website like that, Google can crawl the pdf so the link points back to his site.
