Is it hard to Out rank wikihow or ehow pages?

Seems that the majority of the niches I try to rank for, wikiHow and ehow is always at the #1 spot. how would one go about outranking an authority site such as wikiHow and ehow? Is it easy or harder??

  • If it's a "how to" keyword it can be tougher, but I haven't had problems outranking eHow pages in most cases.

      Its pretty easy, well ofcourse I don't know how experienced you are with seo but you have to keep in mind that these sites like eHow don't have much backlinks to each of their articles/posts/howto's so with a few quality links or a bit larger amount of less quality links you should outrank them.

      With quality link I mean real quality links at pages with PR and relevant to your niche

      With lesser quality links I mean links from the better blog networks like (LinkVana, LinkAuthority, HighPRsociety, Traffic Kaboom, ALN), or web2.0's that are blasted with multiple type of links like wiki links, social bookmarks, tier2 web2.0's, forum thread links, lower quality blog networks like (UAW, MAN, AR, AMA, AMR).
  • no... if you see them on page 1 you can get past them
  • Google loves when those sites rank... but yes you can get past them. G is constantly shuffling... but... usually... root domains have a slight preference over subpages.
  • Like others said it should be easy enough.

    They don't build links themselves and most of the links they do receive either don't have the correct anchor text and or nofollow

  • These would be considered "positive" signs for us when we're doing our first page evaluation. We just did a podcast on positive/negative signs when we're reviewing the first page that you might be interested in checking out:

  • No, it's not hard. To me these are actually a sign that Google has nothing else of value to display, so they go with the typical / trusted eHow & Wikihow pages.
  • What about Wikipedia/Amazon/bay pages? Or sub pages from authority domains?
  • Wikipedia can be rather difficult if they have an exact match article to the keyword.

    Amazon and eBay are quite a lot easier than Wiki in most cases. Though you aren't going to outrank Amazon for "kindle"...

  • I'm having an EMD too but the first three results on page one for my main keyword are 1. Medical site 2-3 Wikipedia...still building backlinks...tough job though
