Hi,

I've just started with the whole adsense scene,
bought a domain + hosting, and some 30$ worth of advertising in yahoo.

for those 30$ i thought i would get more traffic then i'm beggining to realize.
all the keywords i've chosen are beginning at 50-60 cents and as the minimum bid they dont even get impressions...

i've tried buyin a keyword tool (someone told me to get keyword country - i dont know if that was such a good idea...)
all the keywords it gives me are - 1. too expensive, 2.in the minimum bid still doesnt get any impressions...

is there a better way of finding the right low CPC keywords?
what am i doing wrong?
(and- is it possible getting good traffic for 5-10 cents a click ? )

Thank you so much
Roy

The cost per click is about your landing page relevance and a few other factors - not a blanket cost of a keyword.

Different people pay different amounts for keywords depending on their landing page relevance and how they set up their campaigns.

I always come up with my own list of keywords by working with keyword data that I collect. I move words around, use keywords that I think other people would be using, etc. The best keyword tool is a combination of your brain and a traditional KW tool.

Also, don't forget that having lots of content on your page, a sitemap, navigation bar, and a relevant page really helps.

That being said, you might want to hold off on purchasing clicks if the niche is that competitive. Take the time to gain more experience attracting traffic via other avenues - it will do you well with PPC ads down the line.

I can give you a suggestion. Get the heck away from Yahoo! Yes I know you have money left in there, but I left them with $127.00 in my account. I signed up for the $30.00 replenishment and they kept taking out of my account 2 to 3 times a week. My wife jumped all over me. I spent and spent and made $4.66 over a 5 day period. I spent over $100.00 on that campaign.

It was because I got greedy with the keywords and was not patient. Every time you make a change to your ad, it takes 2 days to get it going again. I thought it was because my CPC was too low, so I increased my bid and added new keywords that I thought would bring me traffic. Bad decision.

If you can find long tail key phrases and [be patient], your campaign will make money. I have found that most any niche's have a few long tail key phrases that you can use even in a competitive market. Go deep in your keyword research. Look for keywords and key phrases that most competitors don't use and they "must" pertain to your landing page. Conversion is all about the customer finding what he/she searched for originally. Think like your customers do.

I have a piece of software I use called Micro Niche Finder. It deals with Google searches, but they translate to Yahoo as well. I have a 3 posts on my blog about keyword research that might help you. Try, if you can, not to use PPC when you start your business. Submit articles, get involved in a few forums and put a signature on your profile as well as contribute intelligent comments on blogs that concern your niche. This is more cost effective. Especially when you first start out.

Instead of wasting money on CPC.

Choose 1 keyword or a combination of 2 keywords and target these.

Write articles and post backlinks everywhere you can for the keyword.

(We are talking hundreds if not thousands - so don't think it is gonna be a quick fast result)

Optimise your landing page for the keyword.

Don't choose a highly competitive keyword - if you are a beginner - it will take too much effort.

Choose a less competitive one and only target this keyword UNTIL you see results.

A Keyword tool that I would highly recommend is the Google Keyword Tool.

And its free. It can take time to master, but a great tool and is the only one I use.

I would also recommend doing a little research on keyword match types.

Use a good tracking tool like ConversionRuler.com and use that to collect incoming keyword data, then add the ones that convert to your PPC account.

Years of doing this has over 8,000 keyword phrases in my AdWords account that convert and are very very profitable.

Sure you can get traffic from SEO but 75% of my AdWords traffic & conversions come from Display Network that is completely inaccessible by SEO techniques.

PPC and SEO are BOTH to be used, not one instead of the other.
