Gradual ranking increases after adding G+1 page, Googles Places listing etc.

In the month since I finally got round to listing my offline business in Google Places and creating a proper Google +1 profile page (and linking my site to them) I have seen gradual increases for all my major keywords, mostly between 1-5 places (a lot in such a static industry area), putting me squarely on mid page one for most of my keywords. I have done NO other SEO in MONTHS, and all backlinking is completely white-hat (other than an effort to include relevant anchor text where possible).

Now, that isn't proof of anything, I know, but unless you really have a Google phobia (and I doubt you do, or you wouldn't care about rankings either), you would be CRAZY not to do as much as possible to give your business an edge of legitimacy using all the Google services you can.

A lot of this stuff you could do even with little niche sites. You COULD create a, hmm, pseudonymous Google +1 profile and make sure you link it to your site with the rel=author tag (Google how to do that) to try to get those groovy little author icons next to your listings. And a Google Page for your site isn't going to go amiss either.

If you still doubt that these tweaks have any effect I would say you are living in cloud-cuckoo land as regards where Google is going with G+1 and its search engine. I know it isn't going to rank you for "car insurance", but it certainly won't do any harm.

P.S. WOAH, sorry, this was really meant for the SEO forum - I hate it when people post SEO stuff to the main forum, sorry about that! But I guess this is relevant to marketers in general.
