Less than 1000 exact searches per month - can it work?

Dear Warriors,

I am brand new to this and I am asking for your help.

I discovered MS ten days ago and I am using it to find keywords for my niche site. These words must be something that I endorse personally.

I realized soon enough, and it's nothing new for you I assume, interesting niches are extra competitive (a huge disappointment ) and I probably stand no chance of competing against them with my rudimentary SEO and web marketing skills. I also learned here on WF that you need to find keywords with 1000 or more "exact match" searches per month for your website to be successful/profitable. Well, after seven days of exploring, I found 4-5 keywords that match MS "golden rule" requirements, yet these are not quite related to my interests.

What strikes me (and I would like to explore this possibility) is that there are many appealing keywords but with only 500 or so searches per month and very low competition. I like that many of them are related and can be part of one theme. But, this is far bellow the recommended 1000 by the WF.

My question for you: Is it a good strategy to find 4-5 closely related keywords with 400-600 exact match visits per month and build a thematic website around them instead of targeting 1000-searches per month words?

I thank you all in advance!

    YES. In two cases:

    1. If CPC is very high, let's say $2.5+ and you got more than 500 searches.
    2. You got ton of related keywords and at least $1 CPC. Get 20 keywords with 500 searches and you have 10k in total.

    Good luck

Often it's only worth it if you can get to No. 1 in the SERPs. Check your competition before making any moves.

  • Yes it can definitely still work but the results will just take a little longer. Let's say you have a product that converts at 5%. If you send 1,000 a month to your offer, you will make roughly 50 sales. If you send 10,000 visitors a month to the offer, you will make roughly 500 sales (all ball-park figures of course). It's just a numbers game. You could make money with 100 visitors a month, but the money will just be less and take a longer to make.

Nothing wrong with under 500 searches.

How can someone argue that 1000 searches with $1 CPC is good, but 500 searches with $3 CPC is bad?

If the metrics work out - go with it!
