Duplicate content penalty (from other sites) - real?

So for my site, I had the idea of putting some content from other sites on it, in additional to my original content. I'm not sure if I'll get a penalty for it and I just wanted to get your opinions.

By content I don't mean "articles" necessarily, but an example would be like...a long product description or official specifications from the manufacturer's site, or a few-paragraph bio from a sports team's about page.

Will I get penalized for doing this?

Off course you will penalize by Panda which will effect on your website ranking if you want to write content through another website you can do it but care fully just take the guidelines of subject through another website and write unique content.

This question used to be laughed at... But now there is some truth to it. First of all, "duplicate content" technically refers to multiple copies of the same content on the same domain.

... What most people mean, is does syndicated content hurt your rankings? Evidence shows that Google's most current algorithm dislikes pure syndicated copies without any editorial add-ons. So, you can syndicate content from other sources. But to avoid looking like a low quality scraper, it's best practice to add a little unique introduction and/or conclusion.

Hmmm, good advice, thank you very much!

Yes, I wondered if excerpts of passages and articles would be a penalty since a lot of blogs and sites do that. But they do add editorial like an intro and conclusion, so I may do that.

Google wants to provide value to their users. Using syndicated content is fine, AS LONG as you add your own value to it. Ask yourself whether visitors arriving on your page benefit any more than if they would by arriving at the original source.

How is "value" quantified by Google though? How will a robot know if the syndicated content I pasted there valuable to my visitors? That's what I'm wondering. I wish Google had clearer guidance on this subject,

They don't tend to penalize you if you have lifted some copied content, you just shouldn't expect to rank for it. However, if you site is over 50% dupe, you may not rank at all. Google tends to give relevance to the site that is the original owner of the content.

Having said that, we still do see some pages that are copied sitting on first page below the original writer. if you are aiming for a top class site, my advice would be to go for 100% unique.
