Does paying for traffic effect Google rank?

I'm just wondering, I have a site and I am about to purchase some traffic to the site. Will doing this effect my google rankings? Will Google see it as a negative and penalise that site?

The site is currently in good standing with Google and I don't want to jeopardise that.

    No your rankings will be just fine. More visitors to your site will not hurt your SEO position. If you have social media sharing in play then you could boost your sites rankings with interaction from visitors.

      More Traffic will increase rankings overall, alexa ranking plays a part.

    Good traffic will do nothing but help your site. The question is, will the traffic you pay for be good? Many of those pay for traffic sites will have bots visiting you. You may see great numbers, but if they are not real people...in fact, if they aren't prospects; then you have wasted your money.

    Bad traffic will not hurt your site. But, excessive links could get your site penalized.
