Niche site with a specific exact match domain VS an authority site targeting several keywords?

Hi,

I have been building niche sites for a short while, and have read a fair amount. Many marketers advocate building niche sites (finding high traffic low competition keyword with good cpc) and most importantly to find an exact match domain that matches that keyword, and build a site around it.

However, what I have found could work better, is find a number of related keywords with the high traffic low competition, and build 1 site around all of them, with a more generic domain name related to the niche. That way I can create 10 articles and build backlinks to each of the ten pages, but the only downside is that I wont have an exact match domain for any of the keywords.

I wanted to ask a few of experienced internet marketers, which sites are better to build and will make you more money and more importantly which is a more sustainable model.

to summarize

build 20 niche sites, each with exact match domains, with 5 pages each
build 5 sites without an exact match domain, with 10 pages each.

Obviously the risk is split over fewer sites, so the risk is higher with the second option, however are the rewards greater?

Thanks in advance.

Build authority site for long term profitability.

Most importantly, you have to start building a list. Otherwise you are missing out on 90% of your potential income, and yoru likelihood of IM success is very slim. Sorry to be brutally honest.

I wasted half a year building sites and not building list with nothing to show for.

Don't make the same mistake that I made.

    Build a list.

[deja vu] I could swear I've read than line somewhere else today [/deja vu].

For long term sustainability you'd want to go with an authority site, plenty of content etc.

For a quick buck, you'd go with the niche site, although.....they're on Google's radar so maybe not.

You have far more scope to develop an authority site which is more impervious to the ebb and flow of the Google algo....versus a 'here today, gone tomorrow' niche site.

What does you heart tell you?

the fact that building a list is something that has been mentioned a number of times on this forum. However I didnt think building a list was valueble for niches outside the money making niche and health niche, im obviously mistaken.

Could you tell me what advantage there is of building a list as opposed to just advertising the content/product i would be targetting at my list on my site. Also if i am primarily gaining revenue via visitors through adsense, is there any needs to build a list?

Really looking forward to your reply

      thanks in advance.

There is a possibility, with a list, of getting the same visitor more than once.

The visitor could go to your page, sign up for your mailer, and continue to look around. Maybe they exit with an ad, maybe not. Either way, you now have a channel to continue communication with them, and the potential to put your offers (or updates with links back to your site) many times in the future.

The rules switch from gaining visitors to keeping visitors. You actually have some retention in your website.

Kind of like a forum. If this was a static site, maybe you would have come once, found your info, and left with an ad. But likely not be back. With the membership, you are reminded to come back, and view even more ads/etc.

    My answer: Both works!

My question: Why don't you do both? Isn't that gonna better?

Definitely there will be a few websites sitting down like a lazy dog, those sorts of websites that doesn't generate enough income for me will usually be sold at flippa (low profit though) ..

    Hope this help,
    Jeremiah

P.S. Start with the authority site first

All the new Google changes favor authority websites with high quality content.

Building such sites is a long-term strategy, takes some time but the benefits are huge.

Micro niche websites might get results short-term, but are ultimately doomed.

Just another quick question, where is the line between an authority type site, or a niche site.

Can they be distinguished by the number of pages and content,
Or is the best distinguisher the way they sites are set up, ie the layout

Im assuming it is a mixture of both.

What i seem to be seeing most of is a hybrid. A niche-authority style site, that seems a little bit of both, but not completely one or the other.
