If I have my main site set up at site.net/website and a blog for the site set up at site.net/blog, will the fresh content of the blog keep the SEO value of the site up, although installed on a different directory?

    I believe so.

Don't know why you need a /website url though. What is the homepage at site.net?

It's more like BRAND.com/KEYWORDS. That's why the main site sits in a directory of it's own.

Yeah, the thing about that is it only matters if your competition is updating their sites a lot too.

Many niches, especially local business niches, just have basic information and relevant content on their site.

You don't NEED to update your content all the time to rank. I've seen countless static sites rank, and every time Google says it's going to matter more, you just compensate with better links. End of story.

Or you could add pointless articles to your site all the time because Google told you to.

From his original post i got the idea that he felt like he needed fresh content to rank, obviously i don't know the niche because he didn't state it. And you're right, some just need static page with good content and relevant solutions for what the user is searching.

However, by saying that it depends on whether the competition are updating their site content often, you could be saying that if they are, and he isn't, that his competition are gaining an advantage by doing this.

Therefore, if his competition aren't updating their content regularly, but he is, wouldn't then then give him an advantage?

Ah ok. I'm pretty sure that an updated blog acts as a content update for the whole domain, and therefore probably for domain.com/keywordx too. You'd still need to make sure the other pages are useful, content wise.

Would like to hear if anyone thinks otherwise, and the reasons why.

Regardless, what matter is your strategy for site. Are you trying to rank for certain keyword and if so how are you going to monetize it..

All that plays a role... If that's the case.. Your trying to build the blog to get people to your html page..

What is it are you getting at?

Yeah... neither of these comments are irrelevant and not easy to comprehend.

    Larches is definitely a guy.

My Site is hosted at site.com/keyword. My blog is at site.com/blog. Will the fresh content on the blog help my main site rank, considering that it's the same domain, just different subdirectories? Tis the question.

Yes fresh content will help because your site and blog share the same root domain. The different directories do not matter.

You will get the full benefit of the freshness of the content as the domain remains the same in both the cases.

I am not sure about that. Google ranks pages not websites, so you will have high PR for your blog, but not so good for your site's home page.

It's called "Page" Rank for a reason. I think that if you're adding fresh content to your blog, Google will just rank the blog higher. However, if you add links to your main site from your blog, it may help the main site.
