What's left behind in the SERPs

I've noticed, in my niche anyway, that a few of my competitors (and myself too) have suffered with a drop in position for a number of important keywords. This was expected in all honesty.

However, what I didn't expect, was that quality - or lack of quality - of the sites that remain. Seem to be low content, ill optimised sites that have lingered around the lower levels and suddenly appeared in the top two pages. Has anyone else noticed this in their own niche?

Sorry, I should have mentioned - I received the Unnatural Links notification from Google 2 weeks ago, and my rankings have slipped as a result.

Oh, then try to get some relevant backlinks on your niche sites. stop any spam tool if you're using on your site.

I also faces same problem with one of my sites, Google webmaster warn me and also remove PR. I then check all my backlinks and got the problem, I placed link in blog roll of my friend blog, and Google consider that unnatural link. Just go through your links, you may got the answer why you loss rank.

Sounds like that keyword you and others were goiing for was an easy one that a lot of people aren't optimizing for, so by de-grading you and few others they have to replace them with something, hence crappy pages..
