Alternative domain to an EMD question

Well I've tried to submit a post question about types of extensions but no matter what I type the system thinks I'm trying to post links. How the heck am I supposed to explain my question? I don't want to post links, I'm simply talking about domain types.

    • Let's try this again...

If a dot com EMD is taken, what is the next best option? An EMD dot com with hyphens, an EMD with another extension, or an EMD with a prefix/suffix?

Thats' the shortened version of the question. My original post was much more in-depth.
  • I have all three ranking at the moment and with the right content and backlinks you can rank any of them. But I would suggest purchasing the .org or .net variation of the domain. If those are taken, then add a prefix.suffix. Hyphens work as well but look pretty spammy these days.

    • I agree with going with .net and .org next, but I disagree after that. I like hyphenated domains (2 hyphens max, and a hyphen between all keywords). Then I would go after prefix/suffix ... but make it brandable.
  • Just do whatever, they'll all rank the same I promise you.

    • It's not only about ranking (which I agree with you), its also about brandability.
