Matt Cutts, Google's SEO wiz, says a lot of things like spammy links won't get you to the top & that only decent content prevails. How much of what he says do YOU actually think is true in the real world?

Well, you have to remember that the algorithm that Google uses is their own niche, and so the tricks that work for Google don't necessarily mean that they will work for all other searches.

Nevermind Google, 14 posts of yours (all useless one liners) to get your signature link seen have just been removed from this forum.

Please stop posting spammy comments separated seconds apart merely to get your post count up and your signature link seen.

We want quality posts on this forum NOT quantity posts of no use to anyone.

    Some of it

The thing is, a lot of what he says is true, but you have to remember that he works for Google so all he will say is to focus on quality of your website and content which improves Googles user satisfaction.

He does not go into detail about how to get backlinks and whether certain techniques such as owning your own private blog network will help, although we know it will.

    Virtually all of it.

Look, I realize what Google says and what it appears they do are two different things. However, at the end of the day, you are playing in their sandbox. They are telling you what they want. Why not give it to them? They are going to get it right eventually and when they do, you will be left out if you don't give them what they want.

Matt Cutts is actually all right (I don't fancy him!). He has acted outside of the corporate constraints laid down on him a number of times in his voicing of SEO philosophies. Remember, Cutts is not a robot. He has a life outside of Google and will undoubtedly have a fine future on the "outside". Of course, he tows the line, but he'll incorporate his own fine snippets in his blog and videos, too.

Theres definitely ways to get to the top using spammy links (as you can see people here do it all the time) but its more important to create a stable, sustainable SEO technique to get your sites to the top and stay there. The closer to natural you can get, the better your site will stay when google does their frequent algorithm changes.

LOL!!! Matt Cutts is not google's SEO whiz.

I think some of you should do a tad more research on
        just what Matt Cutts does.

Cutts is the biggest mouth google has, besides Larry Page.

Google does not have nor need an SEO whiz, BTW, they
rank #1 just fine. But I digress....

Cutts is just one spoke in a big wheel. Many times, as in
all large companies, one spoke does not know or
care what another does and sometimes they are
speaking out of turn. But who cares? Ever hear
some of the stuff Joe Biden says?!?!?!

You can learn quite a bit from Cutts. The WF has been
        quite good as a filter.

It makes sense to put stock in what he is saying. He works for Google a publicly traded company. They can't afford to purposely lie and mislead people.

They can lose a lot following, power over lies. So many people hate Google. Matt tells the true when he's talking on the videos like that. I can guarantee it without working there..
