I just read this article all about Author Rank. It is Google's method to reduce the importance of spammy links and make relevancy, trust, and social interaction. Have a look:

AuthorRank could be bigger than all Panda updates combined

The bottom line? Create epic content and OWN it. Build relationships. Stop paying for spammy links and get links from real content authored by people Google likes, and get Google to like and trust you as an author.

    I hope this doesn't get taken the wrong way, but it's already like that (regarding unique content).

    You've already had to create unique content for a while on Google if you want to do well (the panda update took care of that). And yes, it had an immediate effect. I saw many of my pages drop off immediately and had to rework it.

    And social marketing is already real important to getting ranked. Google+ not so much yet, but in general it is.

      Yes, I agree. What I am really getting at is using G+ because they will do everything they can to make it work.

        It's amazing what people will believe. I got news for you...no one uses Google + except those lookingt to game it. Google sucks at social media period. Anybody remember Google Wave? No? Horw about Google Buzz? Both dead and never worth a seconds consideration. Google + is dying now and will be completely dead by 2013...it sucks and everyone knows it.

        Uniquie content you say? I say quit being naive...Google has no idea what unique content is. I know many sites that completely scrape others cointent and always have and they are ranked anywhere from #1-#10 and have never had a problem with Google's Panda updates.

        Everyone want's to believe Googler is so smart and so advanced...Take a good look at the serps and you will see immediately that google is neither. Google forgot what they did well a long time ago...now they just sell advertising.

          Totally agree, man!!! I don't know how, but every social network that Google was tried to produce ended up very quickly. People don't like them. I can't really say why people are so indifferent to their social nets.

    "Search Plus Your World" plays a HUGE role in Google's recently updated algorithm. With 82% of search being done using Google, there's no doubt in my mind that Google+ will eventually prevail.

    There's more people on Google+ than you all think. Type the following in to Google's search box:

    site:plus.google.com "has not filled * profile yet" inurl:about

    site : plus (with no spaces) is whats supposed to be above but smileys are interrupting

    Why does this remind me of HubPages ranking schemes? Will Google tell us about our author score, or will it lead to thousands of posts of people asking, "how can I tell what my author score is" and "does Google like 500 word articles, or 501?"

    Google has been trying to add a lot of things recently. Sure, innovation is great, but maybe Google should cool it. I don't always prescribe to the "it is isn't broken, don't fix it" philosophy, but Google is starting to remind of that kid who finger painted a pretty flower, but then wanted a building, and a superhero, and a rocket ship and now it's just a blob of color.

    Not too sure I go with the notion Google+ is going to fail because past projects have - Google+ is already quite big, and IMO will play a major part in the future of SEO.

    Going to become harder and harder to 'game' the system, soto speak.

    This is worth a read, too, mentions about some plans for Google+ and next gen search they are moving towards.
