Need Advice: What types of backlinks?

New to the forums, thanks in advance for all responses!

Currently trying to seek out quality back-links for an e-commerce western fashion store (cowboy boots, fashion jeans, etc). I'm finding this somewhat difficult because most high quality links are my competition. I have social media and directories covered. What other types or how might I find more general highly ranked sites to link too?

I think its a good option for you to submit articles in authority article directories and social bookmarking sites and also you can find some quality websites/blogs that have the same subject as your site and submit comments on them. also press releasing is another good choice too.

in submitting comments on blogs, is it acceptable to post our stores url - is that the idea?

and two, can you post the exact same article in multiple directories?
