1.As you said, its a tracking system for analyzing site traffic.
2.IMO its the best one but there are many other free tracking systems you can use.

It depends on what you need to use it for. I use it for sites that I don't really care about Search Engine Results (ie I don't care if Google ranks me well in their index). I don't use it for niche sites that rely on Google search traffic for various reasons.

Try out Piwik, it's pretty good and free...not quite as easy to set up as Google Analytics, but not too hard really.

GA is good and what most people use. It really depends on your choice. There are other alternatives. I haven't used GC but have seen good things about it.

Google Analytics keeps track of where your traffic is coming from and how many hits your site is getting. It's definitely the most used, but there are alternatives available. I only use GA so can't speak on any of the others.

    • Google Analytics shows you how people found your site, how they explored it, and how you can enhance their visitor experience.

I think one of the most powerful tool. I like that it shows almost everything that user does on your site. You can set goals and understand how users reach it. With the help of Conversions you can understand how good is your product and SEO campaign.
And it has SO HUGE F.A.Q., that even dummies can get it! )
