News or Authority Sites Getting Over 8000 visitors per day....

I am currently running a news-type of site and I'm stalled at 5000 hits per day and I'm wondering what I can do to break through this threshold. Does anyone who is running a similar site have any strategies that are specific to these types of sites. I have over 2000 posts and post about 6 or 7 times per day. All unique content except for quotes.

FYI: I am an experienced internet marketer so I know all of the obvious ways, guest blogging, article marketing, backlinking, submitting to directories, fan pages, social bookmarking every post (onlywire), newsletters, tweeting each post via 4 twitter accounts, etc.

I am wondering if there is anything that I am missing that is not your typical strategy.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I think you should expand more to the social areas, if you didn't already. Sometimes you just need to patient I guess. One of my authority sites capped on 3000 a day for 5 months and I did everything. Then out of nowhere my site got a steady 10k day.. and they all came from the regular channels they used to come from.

It seems you are doing everything you can. Also look into paid traffic, this could boost your visitors as well, then the only trick that remains is trying to get them back to your site again and again.

Thanks for that advice. I am afraid that you are probably right. That's sort of how I got to the 5000 mark. I was cruising at about 2800 - 3000 was a good day. Then out of nowhere I was blowing past 5000.

I think I just have to be consistent and patient. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some hidden gem!

Increase your reach by diversifying your site. Add content in areas that you hadn't before. You're trying all the obvious ways but may not have tried the less obvious ones like software submission, posting answers, press releases and maybe even tapping offline sources like newspapers.

What about applying to Google news?

Also I've seen those reader apps on Facebook and they're really good. They publish really catchy stories and you need to authorize the app before you can read it, when some reads the article it will post to their profile so it's highly viral, all the big papers like the Daily Mail and Guardian have it, check it out!

    Is it seasonal by chance?

Hi A790, No it's not seasonal.

Google news requires at least three writers. I have this up now. I will wait a few months before reapplying.

@MaxP - that's a great idea. I started doing that last night. I think this might actually be very affective. It will draw people from another area/interest and then they will see my other content so hopefully I will get more visitors and lower my bounce rate. Thanks for the great idea!
