Hi

If you type in a keyword for a certain country and its 'low' or 'medium' in searches is that good or bad?
#search engine optimization #bad #good #google #keywords #lowcompetition #thing
  • If you're talking about Google's Keyword Tool, that just means how many advertisers are competing to advertise in AdWords with a particular keyword. It's mainly relevant if you're using AdWords, although if there's little competition, it suggests advertisers don't find the keywords to be of much monetary value to them.
  • The keyword tool shows you the exact number of searches by clicking on the "exact" box on the left. The high, medium or low refers to the number of competitors.

The keyword research tool makes this difficult to know. After seeing the keyword you are interested in, you need to type the keyword in quotes into google to see how many competitors there are for this keyword. If you are under 30,000 a well optimized site can rank on the 1st page of google depending on weather or not there are many authority sites ranking for that keyword.

If you are using a high authority blog like EN, you can rank on the 1st page even with much higher competition.

I hope this helps, if you need any clarification, just PM me.

    • Sorry Lori, but the search in quotes does not show you your competitors. Type in your keyword into Google; the top 10 are your TRUE competition.

These are the ones you want to beat. Actively promote your site with back links and proper onsite SEO and you will end up on the first page. Then you can begin pushing them off as you climb your way up.

Everyone else obviously isn't doing the right things, this is why they are NOT on the first page.

Low means not much people are advertising on it so if you make an Adsense site it's better to skip those. Unless you think the keyword does have sales value in certain niches then you can go for it.

I have a website targetting a keyword where Adwords indicatess "low" but it is related to the insurance market so a bit of logical thinking gets you a whole end. This kw is now making me 200 euro/month with Adsense.

    • its a website just based on the low competition 'keyword'. there's several thousand searches each month for this word within the country im aiming for.

With these searches people are still looking for this product and with low competition my website could potentially be ranked highly on Google, maybe first page and grab the attention of potential customers?
  • if i go ahead with my two low searched keywords then i will be in a better position then high keyword? I will get more for my money hopefully regarding ppc budget due to low searches but the low search volume is good as people are looking for the product?
  • Regarding the keyword too, low competition usually means theren't many advertisers going after that key term. Typically, advertisers will pursue terms that deemed as profitable so the more advertisers, the more likely the term can be profitable in some form. But can you make money with low competition keywords? Absolutely.
  • thank you for your comments
  • I totally agreed with Paul. It just means there may not be any money value...
