As i know, its one of the most difficult and highest competition keywords and optimizing a website to rank in top results for this keyword is really difficult and needs a lot of time and experience and i suggest you to start with another keyword if you want to reach your goal faster and better. Its very difficult to optimize for real estate keyword.

Do you have specific keywords that you are trying to rank? Is this for a national or local business?

Initially you can work for the long tail keywords and ones if you could able to rank the keywords you can go for the highly competitive keywords.

According to me if the market is local then you can achieve good serp but for global it's quite competitive and you need to work hard to get top 10 ranking.
you can work on Google local places and citation websites to improve SERP of your website

Real estate SEO is the act of improving the website for better search engine visibility which brings more website traffic and increases the number of clients. Also, Real Estate SEO offers realtors and home owners the chance to promote their listings online with the freedom to exhibit as many characters as they need.

I have been working on real estate seo for over two years now and it's not hard to get to the top of google if you know what you are doing. But that is the key... Knowing what you are doing.

Real estate seo is not like any other types of seo for a couple of reasons. First the players and the history real estate seo are very interesting. It's a long and drawn out story but the history of real estate seo and real estate websites has had a huge impact on the way real estate agents see the Internet and themselves within it. Long story short, they all pretty much gave up many years ago when the big sites took over the search engines completely.

The big real estate sites have have it all to themselves for years now (long story)... But what is cool is that things are changing even as I sit here and type. What used to work (PageRank), while still a factor, is not enough to win the battle any more. Yet PageRank is all the big slob real estate sites have going for them besides a lot of money. But they think they are invincible and nothing can touch them.

Anyone that is up on the subject knows that now is the time to go after the real estate niche, but most people thinks it's hopeless.

But I digress... I told you it was a long story and that is not even starting to tell it from the historic perspective or the technical side either. Anyway, visit the url below if you want to understand some of the technical side of it. That page brings us up to today, but does not address the future of real estate seo. (I'm still working on that)

opps, no links allowed. Anyway, my blog is Design Weaver Marketing. With that and my last name, McCulloch you should be able to find it. Send me a message and I'll show you how to kick but for the top real estate phrases.

        Robert,

I tend to agree with the gist of everything you've said.

I'd also add, that for here in the UK, the real estate keyword is now over-run by Real Estate Agencies that have become brand names in their own right as well as Real Estate aggregators such as rightmove.co.uk

These brands have taken over the searching habits of consumers so that "everyone" knows that to search for a bargain, you go to Rightmove.com or Zoopla.com etc, NOT GOOGLE.

At the same time, moving away to related key words - there are some real estate "gurus" who are making a killing selling IM based content. Webinars, Seminars, Courses, eBooks etc are all driven by a collection of UK keywords on real estate or "property" and it's currently saturated at the moment.

I'm in the mortgage business, but I go niche product with individual websites for each product. I have a FHA 203K, USDA, HARP Refinance and couple GEO specific sites.

The properties are the viewer eye candy and get the most visitors, but the buying cycle is LONG! Niche mortgage products usually generate ready to act buyers because they have already found the property and need help ASAP. Less visits, way better conversion.

Several of my Unbounce landing pages convert at nearly 20%. The other 80% who jump get retargeted.

If you are straight real estate then have lots of neighborhood info, fresh content, solid IDX, good email drips and you HAVE to retarget. It isn't easy to play against Trulia, Zillow, Redfin, Realtor.com, etc

It is a high competitive niche and getting good position is very hard. Because a lot of expert people are always competing in this niche. For getting good result you have to do keyword research for finding such keywords which have comparatively low competition and then choose good technique of optimization for that keyword. Have to work hard for reaching the goal.

One more thing, offline networking is huge as well. Attending industry events like RETSO or Mortgage Tech Summit will connect you with some great backlink and guest blog opportunities.

It is a unique industry, my sites are completely ad free. Why distract with a adsense ad when I can close a loan and make 5K? I just want traffic and leads.

I could probably monetize the leads and traffic, but I'd make a 1/4 of what I make actually closing the business. I hate this business too, so if anyone has any great ideas then please let me know

I have a couple of sites in the real estate niche and all i do is SEO and they rank within the top 4 of google.

I don't think it's very hard to get into (and rank) you just have to pick the correct keywords
