Do Any Other KeyWord Research Tools Have The Analytical Ability of Market Samurai?

So I downloaded Longtail Pro and while its ok... I've had it stop working on me after a while, and it still won't work even after I've entered the captcha. I've pretty much abandoned it for keyword research and just use Google's Keyword tool, and then I use Longtail to examine the top 10 results.

That got me looking at other tools, and I noticed that MS was the premier tool previously, but with the announcement that they will be rolling out a monthly charge and several reports of slow and buggy usage has put a damper on that.

After going through a couple internet marketing guides that dedicate a good portion of their process to using MS, I kind of learned about it through proxy.

I have been looking to improve my keyword research anyway and from the looks of it MS has some pretty sick statistical data that I feel could be useful.

Like I think if you type in a keyword, it will give you a ratio of how many people type in the keyword the way you searched for it versus other iterations of the same phrase to see if the longtail you searched for it the most popular.


I also believe there is a statistic that tries to quantify the competition for a given keyword (which I believe bases competition strength on number of competitors rather than actual strength)

I'm almost looking for a tool that measures not only number of competitors but also stength of the competitors and feeds it to me in some sort of ratio.
Then I'll take a look at the top 10 more closely.

Basically I am looking for more granularity from a tool when it comes to keyword research and wanted to see what you guys suggest.

    You can use Niche Finder from Brad Callen. Very good one. Even though it will not give you tons of information like MS but it will provide you most important factors you need to know. Also it will let you know how competitive a keyword is. Not always accurate but good. It requires one time fee so very cheap indeed. Here in Warrirforum you can get WSO which will let you get discount to purchase NF. Just search using Niche Finder.

    SERPIQ is my favorite that I have ever used. I think that it is on par with MS.

      As I said before I have longtail pro and while I do trust that the data that I get from this program is good, I feel like I need more

    Google Keyword Tool for research, Traffic Travis for competition analysis, and LibreOffice Calc to manipulate the data.

    MS pulls its data from the Google Keyword Tool. Traffic Travis provides a lot of the functionality from MS modules at no cost. And Calc / Excel can manipulate the keyword data a LOT faster than MS can using filters.

      If this works well (just downloaded) maybe I'll just use it in conjunction with MS

        I've mentioned the process in a couple of threads, I think.

        As much as I loved MS in the past, the Google Keyword Tool + Excel / Calc blows it away.

      I will first say that all the keyword research tools in the world pull their data from sources that are available to everyone.

      You can get the data from the Adwords tool set for search volume, CPC, #of Advertisers. Then there is SeoQuake for competition data like Page Rank, linking domains, back links domain age ect. Majestic SEO for back link numbers and Spyfu for extra information. All of this is completely free and when you plug it into OpenOffice(also Free) you can do all your own calculations.

      Aside from that, Market Samurai does have some very nice numbers when it comes to Keyword Research, especially when it comes to Top 10 competitors. I mainly use it for keyword generation because you can pick the number of words in the keywords you want returned.

      I also use Secockpit a whole lot even though it is not cheap but I did work it out that it would cost the same or more if I ran a VPS with keyword tools on it. Secockpit gives some great numbers for strength of competition, what type of websites are in top 10(youtube, EMD etc). Plus since it is a hosted service, you can run as many queries as you want without getting blocked by google. The task feature is quite nice as well.

      Then there is Micro Niche Finder. This is great for strength of competition numbers as well as it will show you not just the top 10 but the overl niche itself to determine how competitive it is.
