    My personal theory has always been that, if you're going to build an asset, make it one that you own rather than one someone else probably already owns.

    How many potential trademark violations can you see in that proposed EMD?

    If the answer is more than 0, and it most certainly is, then move on and create own property.

    On the other hand, do it and go for the short term cash - while knowing all along that if it becomes valuable then it's got a high chance of being taken away from you by a trademark owner.

      Also EMD is just one factor in the long SEO list to improve your rankings for a targeted keyword. It means it's not something to be obsessed with. Get what you can - better a dot com brand name (brand = your website's unique name, not samsung and such) - and focus on other SEO aspects.

    EMDs are definitely a good factor for micro niche sites. I've had sites rank on first page for relatively low competition words just with an EMD and content..
