Wondering if I should stick to buying new domain each time for each blog or try out blogger to save some money. Google takes longer to rank for so I know each site gonna take months to rank anyway.

Blogger is good for testing keywords/traffic.

Don't look at Blogger as a negative like most folks here on WF do. You can use Blogger for FREE testing, If you get the blogger site on page #1 in the SERPs with few problems, then move up to a self hosted 2nd site, but defiantly don't do any redirects, two ranked sites is better than one ranked site.

Use the Blogger test site as a one-way backlink pointing at the new self hosted site, If you move forward with a 2nd self hosted site, depending how well the Blogger site converts traffic to sales.

    Keep testing...

I do have one bloggers blog that I started years ago as one of the first site I have and I am amazed how well it is doing actually, have not done any work with it for years. But now I do by my own domain as I like searching and finding interesting domains and the ones I register I consider them as a small investment already that I can sell with profit in the future and of course I develop them if I have chance. Nowadays, with all the deals, coupon codes and promotional offers you can get domains so cheaply and most web host can let you host unlimited blogs so why not get your own then.

      Nailed it.

People tend to hate on Blogger, Weebly, etc. But they're GREAT for testing. They're also great for anyone that is on a shoestring budget. Build up a few sites, rank them, get some sales, and reinvest in domains, tools that can help your business, etc.

I see a lot of times people wanting to redirect the blogger to the self hosted site & the only reason I can figure is they built the blogger site & don't want to start over on a self hosted site.

The thing is, on a blogspot site you can only do a javascript redirect which is a browser based redirect, so the redirect is pretty much worthless as far as using the redirect for backlinks pointing at the new self hosted site. A javascript redirect is only useful for traffic, not SEO.

A better idea IMO is to use the existing blogger site as a one-way link boost, since both sites will be 100% relevant.

Both have their uses. At times certain free blog hosts will rank easy for some reason as well. Would be stupid not to use that advantage. That being said, always keep building your own properties that you own.

I agree 100% with yukon in that free blogs are a great tool for testing things out.

Now, I wouldn't build an entire bussiness on that. I think we can all remember the famous make money online blog that was built on blogger, ranking for lots of big keywords and making lots of money. But all of a sudden google decided to delete the blog. There went his years of hard work, not to mention all that money that he could have been making if he had it on a self hosted blog.

      @satrap,

I don't know the details of the story you cite. I do know that many posters here on WF think Blogger destroys blogs by wiping them out arbitrarily, as your story implies.

These anti-Blogger scare stories are amusing to anyone who knows the nuts and bolts of Blogger. BECAUSE Blogger has a very simple method of backing up blog contents that takes only a minute or two. No one has to lose their Blogger content work if they back up their blog every once in a while (frequency depending on the value you place on the content).

If the 'make money' blogger in your story backed up his blog regularly and if Blogger admin wiped his Blogger blog out it would take him all of five minutes to migrate all of his content to a new WP blog. Or to migrate all of his content to a new Blogger blog, if he chose. These scare stories are downright silly.

yes I reckon Blogger, and other web 2.0 sites are pretty decent for testing ideas, products etc. But personally, I prefer to get the domain I'm after fairly early and build a site out.

I think you can do a lot of research about whether or not a product or market is going to work for you, so I prefer get my share in that with my own site mostly....but..I would use web 2.0 sites for linking back to your main site...but that's a whole new topic.

If its about new niche then according to me it would be great if you can go with new blog but if its about generalize topic then you can add a post to your current blog.

      I agree with ftrave.
I will make some blogger.com sites, but never as my primary site for a product, etc.
In my experience, they tend to rank quickly, get a jump in traffic, and then start fading fast.
As I'm building my main site, I'll use the blogger sites for some traffic and interest, but ultimately point back to my main site.
