Warriors,

Some of you know me as the "keyword research guy". It's just kind of my thing. I have a couple of WSOs on the topic and for the last 2 years I've even had an ongoing service-for-hire right here in the Forum. Don't sweat though, I'm not trying to sell you anything. Quite the opposite. In fact, I just wanted to share a bit of love with the community here and maybe give you some pointers to better help with your own keyword research.

For starters, I say this all the time, but it's worth repeating: keyword research is foundational to online marketing. Get it wrong, and you stand little chance of seeing any kind of success. I mean, this is true in ANY marketing endeavor. Are you an article marketer? You need the right keywords if you expect your articles to rank and actually get traffic. Are you involved in PPC? You need the right keywords to actually make a profit and not go broke. And so on and so forth...

Well I've recently created a couple of simple videos where I go over my simple step-by-step process to keyword research, and thought I'd share that with you here in the hopes of helping others who, maybe like I once was, are struggling to "get it" online.

Again, nothing for sale. If you want to buy my stuff, fine, let's talk. But the point of this post is just to share these free videos with my Warrior friends.

You can watch part 1 of 3 below. The remaining 2 parts can be seen on my YouTube channel, or on my blog which I've linked to below.

Watch Parts 2 and 3 Here If You Like...

Let me know if you have any questions, or if I can help in any way.

Best,
Derek

Thanks, however I think your post would of been better served in the "SEO" part of the forum.

But like I said - Thanks - This will help a lot of people out.

Perhaps James, however I disagree and here's why. Keyword Research is about so much more than just SEO. Sure, it's a critical component to SEO, but it's just as essential in PPC, article marketing, product creation, video marketing, etc., etc. In my estimation, it's pretty much the foundation to online marketing. Others may disagree, but given how essential it is to "Internet Marketing" as a whole is why I opted to include it in this Main section.

Thank you for your videos that explain keyword research using Google Keyword Tool and Market Samurai.

I have a couple of questions: In the Keyword Tool, please inform if the search option should be set to Broad or Exact. So far I have been using the latter option. In Market Samurai, please give your recommendation on what should be the number of searches, in general, to choose a sub-niche.

Well if you follow the methods I outline in the videos, it doesn't matter what Match setting you use for the Google Keyword Tool. In Market Samurai I use Exact.

In regards to your second question about the number of searches, that really all depends. Typically I look for a "main" keyword, the one I'm going to focus on primarily, with 80-100 daily Exact Match searches. However for the 3-5 secondary keywords, I'm fine with only 30 or so. These numbers are very flexible though. Obviously you want the highest search volume possible though, so it's always important to review your competition.

      Hope that clears things up.

Have you had a chance to watch the videos? Would you say you understand it better now? Do you have any remaining questions?

Keyword research is critical, that's true. Get that part wrong and all your further SEO efforts will be useless.
