Sorry I know this is a newb issue and I did some searching here and couldn't find an answer to this:

My main domain name has a Page Rank of 1 but the /home has a PR of 2. These are both the same pages.

How does this affect my organic traffic and should I make my domain default to the /home url?

My website is in my sig.

Thanks ahead of time

Having two urls for the same page isn't best seo practise.

    1. it creates duplicate content
    2. as it's the homepage in this case, it dilutes your PR. Incoming links are split between the two urls instead of one.

You need to pick one URL and 301 redirect the other one. I would 301 the /home.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to use a 301 redirect for this issue as your home is what the url defaults to. So a 301 would most likely create an infinite loop. You will have to use an .htaccess address rewrite. If you google .htaccess redirect some tutorials will come up for it.

With the redirect in use, the higher pr should be passed on to your main site in a short period of time.

      Hope this helps!

Ok looks like now our /home went down to a PR1. Can someone look at our page and make sure it is right?

        Thanks!

Your index page is redirecting to /home.
I have no idea why nobody reads the question
and cargos on nonsense. If you have no idea
what is going on, then it's a server thing. Your
server/settings are set up to redirect domain.com
          to domain.com/home

It's a common practice. No big deal.

Websites have PR, not domains. Your domain in
and of itself does not have PR. The website
that exists under your domain.com, whatever
that is, is what has PR. Many redirect to
          index.html, index.htm, index.php, index.asp,
and many others. I myself have a domain that
forwards to an even longer url. If it's some
of the aforementioned, it won't even show up
in the address bar. Like warriorforum.com I'm
          sure is forwarding to warrior.com/index.php

          It's the same friggin page.

If the redirect is done right, then domain.com
          will have PR.

Either way, it's no big deal for domain.com to
have no PR, but for the forwarded page to
          have PR.

          No big deal.

These questions/issues and then answers are
all a product of people having no clue.

There are many, many, many ways of getting to
the SAME website. Common practice from espn.com,
to ebaymotors.com. From twitter to youtube.

People just don't know how the internet, servers,
          and websites work.

But they can buy a domain from godaddy, do something
with wordpress, and think they are an internet genius!

Stop worrying about PR and worry about getting yourself
          some targeted traffic.

    Here's the short version.

Domains don't have PR, pages do.

    Your homepage has a PR1.

    End of story.
