Website Off The Google Map After Being On Page 3

Ok so here's the scoop.

I registered a domain name on February 29th, 2012 for another new business I am starting. I am not giving out the domain name in order to stay compliant with forum rules, but I will give it if necessary.

One of my main target keywords is "construction marketing" and I began to build quality/relevant and natural links for this website while it is in development. I only built about 20 of them in all and did it over the course of 2 months. I did not pay for any links nor did I use any automated software to build many links at once.

Up until yesterday, my website was on page 3 of Google for the term "construction marketing". Now, the website is completely off the map - not even in the Top 500! What happened??

Now granted, the website doesn't have any content or pages yet, as it is still under construction. Only the homepage/index page has been indexed by Google. It seemed to be bumped up by a keyword rich domain, plus very relevant backlinks. I consider myself to be very close to an SEO expert - but I have never experienced this before. The only thing I can think of is that the website was only being propped up by the links and had no pages or content yet so Google perhaps devalued it?

Any thoughts?? The website will be going live in about 2 to 3 weeks.

Thank you in advance.

    seoandwebdesign,
If you have done SEO for a while then you know that your site is fairly new and it could just be the google dance so keep building as normal. In my experience it has always come back ranked higher but that may be that I kept building content and links at the same rate even when my sites disappeared from the SERPS. So do not give up, just keep up the same velocity.

I know all about the Google dance :p - but I have never seen it go from the first 5 pages to non-existent. I have seen fluctuations, but never this severe.

Nevertheless, thank you for the confirmation. Hopefully that's all it is and it will come back soon.

Yeah you're definitely looking at a simple Google dance. Nothing to worry about.

        Run this search at Google:

        site:yourdomain.com

(replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name)

if something shows up, you're still indexed and just dancing. If nothing shows up, it probably means you've been deindexed.

But with the age of your site, I'd bet my arm it's just a Google dance/sandbox.

As long as you're still indexed there shouldn't really be anything to worry about. It's a pretty new site. And new sites LOVE to dance all over the place.

I am in a similar situation. I was on page 2, then after two weeks slipped to page 4. Did some link building, looked at the structure of the site, all of the things we are suppose to be doing then...........bam! Page 14. Two hours ago I typed site:mydomain.com and nothing! I did it again about 5 minutes ago, and there they are. I think these google algo changes are more like a broad sword than surgeon scalpel.

I'm with you though I have done this for a while I don't remember the swings being so severe.

      Hang in There!

Like Bond Girl above i still thinks it a case of a natural google dance and i would keep building links naturally as you did so far, however i would recommend finding a way to add some content as well even while you are in the process of building the website.
Adding a simple wordpress blog should be easy to do, and will give you the option to add daily content easily (and it will also be great to your future SEO efforts as bigger sites usually do better).

The website is definitely still indexed, so it might just be a case of the Google dance or some kind of Google update. I've heard that Google loves to do updates on Mondays.

The only thing that still concerns me is that it went from page 3 to completely non-existent.

I've seen the same thing only to have the page bounce back at a higher ranking after a week or so.
