Age of a Domain is different from age of a website. A domain can be 10 years old, but it would have existed as a website only for the past few years. In this case the age does not help in SERPs.

If a website (implicitly a domain) is aged, then it will be trusted by the search engines and this does not necessarily mean that they will rank for any thing. There are many other related factors like the age of an incoming link and age of a web content.

Please see the word trusted that is put in Bold : I can't prove you that S.E's trust aged domains but i can prove a converse case where Google does not trust/rank new domains pretty easily(probably to filter out the spam). So this effect makes a statement that " Old sites are trusted by Google".
