Some help here...

I am a total newbie and was wondering is this normal? I was experimenting a business model of sell ad space to the offline businesses in the Food niche. So I set up my WP site following the steps of some of the WSOs I bought here at Warriors, you know the usual stuff of setting up WP, on-site and off-site SEO etc...

The following was what I did (briefly) and hopefully someone can shed some light on this...

First thing I did was to do some KW research and managed to find a KW that has this...

From the WSO I bought, this seems fair enough searches per month for a "niche". So I headed to Google to search for competition. The KW without "Quotes" was 1.12 million and with "Quotes" 17,000 and AllInTitle gave a 1500.

I headed over to Namecheap and managed to get an exact match .com...

I went on to build my WP blog and got 3 articles written at iWriter.com. I posted the article on my blog following the rules set out for on-site SEO.. Headers, meta-tags, keywords etc...

I spruced up the blog by placing some related images and alternate text using my KW. I also added a Youtube related video

Thats all I did. 2 hours after, my site was indexed with my domain name and last checked (within 24 hours), my site is now on Page1 Rank 7 for Google.com and Page3 Rank7 for Google.(my country)

Hmmm, Great results you've got so far.

If I were you, I wouldn't settle down for less than Rank no 1 or 2.

So if I were in your shoes, I would order more articles from iWriter and submit them to major article submission articles (with a link pointing towards your site with your targeted keyword as an anchor word) then go to http://www.socialposter.com and bookmark those submissions.

    Then Rinse and Repeat.

    Hope that helped.

Won't dive into specific WSOs but basically I got WSOs from Themes, Keyword Research etc right down to SEOs and Plugins. Sometimes I feel I am overwhelmed with too much information but learning to outsource now.

How's the traffic coming in? I ask because I have a couple of sites that are on 1st page and even had one site awile back sitting in the first position. In fact I think its still first in yahoo and bing and that is the keyword "get own website" the address is getownwebsite dot com. I was sitting in first postion on page one in google for a while and I got nothing.... Sometimes I think google is funny with their keyword tool

Yeah I just went and checked and Im sitting in 1st position in both yahoo and bing and I have not gotton one visitor and have not made one dime from search engine traffic yet. Thats my goal though. Another thing I want to add is I get comments like you see but my anayletics account doesnt show any traffic. Maybe a visitor here and there but thats it

Thanks for the kind comments and encouragement folks.

It can't be that easy right? Until now I am still finding hard to believe. I would rather it comes slowly, like from Page 5 then 3 and then 1. At least I know I am doing something right. Now its making me more worried... Will go explore and study some more.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but that's not very much traffic (1,300) for a sites root keyword.

    Let's do some math...

(1,300 traffic per month total) x 40% (first SERP position traffic estimate) = (520 traffic per 30 days)

    520 (traffic per 30 days) / 30 (days) = 17 (unique traffic per day average/estimate).

A rough estimate is you'll see 17 unique traffic per day.

Now let's factor in a CTR on whatever your selling, we'll low ball it to stay on the safe side, let's assume the average conversion will be 1%.

    17 (unique traffic per day) x 1% = 0.17 conversions per day average/estimate.

IMO, you need to aim a lot higher for the root keyword. The 1,300 is ok for a supporting page, but I wouldn't want to have 1,300 as my largest traffic keyword.

Don't be afraid of targeting tougher keywords, I'm sure it goes against all the WSOs you've read, but If you ever want your site to show signs of authority in the SERPs, you'll have to target a variety of themed keywords, not just one hit wonder EMDs.

Take this as constructive criticism, I'm not trying to be negative, just trying to point out authority on a niche should be your ultimate goal.

Good work man! Nice to see you ranking after a short period of time. I hope you maintain the rankings for a while.

1.3K searches is a bit low, but now you know what to do and you can either build that out or target something else with a bit more searches!

    Either way, good job

    Well done but not unusual.

It can be done pretty regularly with a low competition keyword.

It all goes back to the niche and keyword research to find something with ok search results but not a lot of competition.

      This is totally true.

It is good that as a newbie, the OP is already realizing that the quality of the keyword is number one and if it is high search volume AND low competition for ads PLUS relatively easy to rank with SEO, then you really have a winner.

I started SEO on a brand new site just today and got it to page 1 of Google for 5 of the lesser keywords immediately got unique visitors and made some sales.

I hope newbies learn this the easy way rather than the hard way that the market, niche and keyword research is the most important step if you want to make money sooner rather than later.

1300/mo makes it a micro niche. I have a site that has about that amount of searches as well and it's on it's way to earning $40-60 per month. Doesn't sound like much, but the online real estate value of that site is closer to $600-800 if we sell it. Combine that with the fact that we make 30+ sites per month and now we're talking Of course not all of our sites do well, but this month we're shooting for around a 40%+ success rate.

It sounds really inspiring! But do you think you could elaborate on the process of choosing the keyword to be working on.

Unfortunately, I made a mistake to first write articles that I am passionate about - didn't think about keywords, didn't think about SEO at all. I just wanted it to be useful to the reader. It's been 2 weeks but search engines do not seem to agree with my views.

So I was thinking about editing my articles a little bit by optimizing them for particular keywords. I'd like to choose a low competitive one since, it has probably become obvious, I am not really experienced. So what tools would you recommend that I should use in order to find out about the number of searches and level of competition? Also, what's the difference in Googling a keyword with "Quotation Marks" and Without Quotation Marks.

I hope it's not too late for me to achieve some success in Google ranking.

    Thank you in advance,
    Rado

    Hi,

I am going to add something here. I was too lazy to read all the posts so somebody else may have pinpointed it. Search results you see are personalized meaning what you see on your computer is different from others and since you check your own website a lot more than others, it tends to show you higher results on search engines (specially if you are logged in something Googley every time you check your website) Anyways, the point is to make sure you see the right results as others see it go to proxyeye.com and in its box type google.com and then search for your keyword. What you see represents the ranking better. If you still see your website ranked #7 then kudos.
Another point: Multimedia pages tend to rank higher compared to text only pages. The math is simple: What percentage of users prefer a video over a text both discussing the same thing?... Well then, that's the reason pages with videos rank higher. So if your competition are those old-time text-only guys, that could be one of the reasons behind your success.

Yeah, for reasons already explained, getownwebsite.com is nowhere near no 1. I see it around mid page 2, which still isn't bad. The main keyword might not have much traffic but it's a good niche to build on. Still, you got caught out by personalised results unfortunately - there's a lot of it about...

Most of the new sites with less competitive keyword would show up on Google first page very quickly but they will not stay for long, and usually disappear after few days. Not until you have more contents and backlinks then it may be back to page 1 again

It's easy to fall into a trap like this, believing SEO can be easily manipulated.

It takes far more skill and brains to tackle more competitive niches. You're going to either need more investments in time, money or effort.

Exact match for 1k should naturally rank without much effort. I suggest you find a slightly wider niche and then tackle all of these low traffic pages on separate posts.

Not easy, but far more lucrative and sustainable if done right. The efforts exponentially become more effective.

That happened with me 2 months back with my website on movies. It was at no. 2 position in Google. However, it slipped to the second page in a week's time. But recovered another week and was again at no. 2. Now after the EMD update it is nowhere Well, since your's a WSO, I'm sure you'll gain further. WSO's do perform good generally.

and what happened after the Penguin of april the 24th ?
Not too bothered with Pandas and Penguins. Google wants relevance and embrace social so I just ensure the site is done for those. Will drip back links slowly

My 2 cents on the process you may want to follow:
    - For this website find an affiliate offer on clickbank, CJ, etc. Promote it only once on a visible spot on your main page (make sure OBL is no-follow). Keep adding articles from iWriter. Slowly build backlinks from quality sources. Don't go anything massive link building because there will be a chance of Google dance. Again slowly but surely and only quality backlinks.
    - Get a few more EMDs on the same niche. Host them on different webhostings or get SEO Hosting/Similar C Class IP hostings. Repeat the same process. Find a revenue model for each website separately (Adsense, affiliate, dropshipping, etc...). Use different themes and different structures.
    - Get a non-EMD brandable domain and develop an authority website on it. Use your previous websites as a basis for a private blog network. Use different linking structures from your websites to this website (for example one of them in the footer, the other one link in a few blog posts, etc...). Don't leave a footprint. Put most of your efforts on the authority website. Rank it for multiple domains. Add lots of content to it....

This is normal, not a ridiculously hard keyword, but good job. Now you just need to keep expanding because thats what a good IMer does.

I have a few questions : Do you see traffic coming in? Do you delete browsing history before checking rankings ? Could that be personalized Google search ? Thanks and good luck to you !

Yeah pretty simple huh. You mean this stuff actually works? LOL. Yeah what you just described above is what google loves and will give you rankings for it.

nice one! I hope you profit from it.

One piece of advice. Turn that site into an authority site. create a youtube account and start putting out niche related videos and linking back to your site.

Find the authority forum in your niche and start contributing and after a week drop your link into your signature.

I would also get a logo, header and intro video that match and start branding. This can be done for cheap on fiverr.
