  • Well, I have no idea what sandwich is, but
an internal link is one to another page on the site.
Those are golden, real and easy backlinks, and
boost the PR of the inner page. External links
go to pages that are on a different domain,
and unless you own them, is quite a dumb
use of link space. Unless someone pays me,
I link to nobody but me. On rare occasions,
I do some external linking, but only to
provide real info for the visitor. For example, if
I did a page on CA car registration info, I
certainly would add a link to the DMV. That
link provides what the visitor wants. I would
not provide a link to a bunch of other sites
just because. If the article was on car
registration in general, I would provide no
external links, maybe a search box.

    • I mostly agree with Paul but I'm not so stingy with the outlinking.

Whenever possible I link out to relevant pages on good sites. You only need to be careful not to link untrusted or bad sites. Linking out doesn't negatively affect your rankings otherwise. In fact, Google patents suggest it might help.

And linking out doesn't hurt your PR. Every site has link juice to spend. If you don't spend it, you don't gain nothing from it. If you do link out but you wrap everything in nofollow, link juice STILL flows away from your site ..it just doesn't go anywhere or credit the outbound page.

As with everything SEO, you need to think natural. Is it natural for a website not to link to others at all? That's the very nature of the "web".
  • According to me,Links from sites other than your own that point towards your website or any link on another page those points to the subject page are called internal links.Outbound links are links from your web page to another web page. Outbound Links are also called as External links.

  • Internal link generally refers to the hyperlink that links to another page within the same website whereas External Link refers to the hyperlink that links to the pages outside the website or any other link that comes from other site to your website.
