Hey guys n gals,

I have a site, inslibrary.com

Right now it is being SEO'd under "what is insurance"
Its been 1 month and haven't cracked the first 1000 on google.

Could you spare a moment and take a look at my site and help advise me on the following:

So what do you suggest i do?
and advise me on some changes i could do?

Also, what would be a better keyword that i can target in on?
"Different types of insurance"?

Thanks a lot for the help

  • I think your on-site seo could be better. Add a blog and write entries related to each insurance. Your content is very thin- what original content are you providing that I couldn't find in 2 seconds. Also not a huge fan of your internal link structure.

Your keyword is crazy competitive. In order to rank highly you will need tons of great backlinks. The only way to do that is to create content people want to link to. Better get cracking on some content. My two cents. Sorry if I'm being blunt just wanted to be honest
  • I took a quick look at your site. The first thing you need to define clearly is:
What are you trying to do? -- What is the PURPOSE of the site?

Example purposes could be: to sell insurance through affiliate links or
to make money by advertising, etc.

The purpose of the site should drive the keyword selection.

(by the way - I think you may find that there are a lot more differences between the Canadian systems and the US systems than you think. Small example - here in the US we don't use the word "form" the way you have used it. Here a "form" is a document you fill out for a variety of purposes. There are huge differences in insurance between different states in the US, let alone between US and Canada)

    • Agreed, I had no clue what the purpose of the site is. I was too lazy to type that up since I'm writing on my iPad lol

How can I improve my internal link structure?
Do you suggest I start SEO on a less competitive keyword?
Blog, I suppose i could try to add in a blog system into the site, is it possible with a joomla template?

      @Leo
I suppose I could adjust it to target only Canadians? How would i do that.
Purpose: As an insurance agent, i simply want to educate people on different types of insurance and what insurance is all about. Hopefully making some side money through advertising. I also have an affiliate program with Kanetix.

When i search what is insurance, i only see wikipedia as the main source and some other small sites. I was simply hoping to be among one of the smaller sites that have information. Also not everyone likes to use wikipedia, or if they are searching for an alternative, id like to be the alternative to that.
  • You can increase your keyword density of the writing or mack back link for the solution of this problem.

    • Lol, please don't listen to this guy. Keyword density is not a good thing. Google "LSI keywords".

As far as your site structure, here's what I don't like: inslibrary-com/auto-insurance]Auto Insurance - What is insurance, Types of Insurance, Auto Insurance, Home Insurance, Business Insurance, all explained here[/url]. You do this for every heading. Personally, I found it confusing. If i was you, i'd write some content instead of just putting links. And at the bottom you can say. We offer: motorcyle, etc. all related to that particular insurace (in this instance, auto)

Also, your little paragraphs on your homepage-make them links. For example, write a little teaser paragraph for each one and make the title (as your keyword) links to the full-blown page.

As far as your blog, I highly recommend it. If you plan to ever rank for this keyword, you will need more than just signing up for SEO packages that do nothing but blog comment and forum post (which are hardly effective by the way). You're going to need some great content. For your keyword, I would recommend "link baiting" since it is SO competitive. Google it if you don't know what it is. I have no clue about the Joomla template.

I recommend you change your keywords to something more long-tailed or less competitive. Honestly, insurance is insanely competitive. Unless your hell-bent on doing insurance, I'd switch it all together.

What are you doing for backlinks?

The first thing you need to do is get a theme that doesn't include a backlink to the theme download site.

See first link at top of the cache page:
What is insurance, Types of Insurance, Auto Insurance, Home Insurance, Business Insurance, all explained here - Inslibrary

Next you need content that is both descriptive & useful.

No offense but I wouldn't call this content.

  • Lets get straight to the point my friend. I am going to save you a lot of time and effort and tell you straight up - you will never ever rank for those keywords with that site.

My advise: find something with FAR less competition.

I've made sites like yours before, in fact I can even provide you an example (websitenames.info).

I tried to rank for the keyword "website names" with an awful CTR theme site with little to no useful content. I don't find myself in the top 1000 on Google either despite a fair chunk of change spent on off-page SEO.

Learn from my mistake and please move to something with a lot less competition if you are going to be springing up sites made specifically for monetization (unless you have a true passion for what you are talking about and can develop a really great site that offers value).

What if i went for "differnt types of insurance"?

      @ilovechinesefood

What if i did something like this.
      Create a sub-domain
      blog.inslibrary.com
      or
      Inslibrary.com/blog

It would basically be another app, so i could use wordpress of studio press like you said and create blog entries and then link them back to my site for further details. While the blog will take a more personal tone such as you said "ways to save on auto insurance" and then link back to my site if they require more formal details.

As for only auto insurance, not much changes in the insurance industry in Canada. It takes a very long time for it to do so. That's why i chose to just detail them all. I am a licensed insurance agent, so i have studied these insurances.

Take into consideration, i would like this to be a side thing not anything that requires too much attention since i am a branch manager @ an insurance brokerage. Websites is something i found interesting, getting daily visitors would be quite pleasing but hopefully can provide me with a little bit of income. Im not looking to quit my job for this, its just more a hobby and for a little side income.

Thanks a lot for the help!
Do you have your own personal site? and contact info? just to keep in touch

P.S. I've hired a SEO expert to create backlinks to my site, should i tell him change the keyword or cancel it? And SEO the blog?

The only way you're going get any traffic from that keyword is if you do PPC.

I agree to just choose a different keyword where you'll see better results much sooner.
  • Honestly man, if you don't have a lot of time, I wouldn't bother. This keyword is hard to rank for. Play around with different keywords and type the leading sites for each respective keyword into a backlink checker. That'll give you the best idea of what youre up against. Try ahrefs. Link building is a full time job in itself, especially for a major keyword.

If you want to get some visitors, start a blog and market it a little. It'll give you great experience and you wouldn't have to waste your $ if it doesn't work out. If you have any questions you can privately message me. Good luck
