You need to work on getting good backlinks and post content regularly on your site. Also work on on page SEO including h1 and h2 tags as well as placement for keywords in you content.

First of all use fresh or original content on your website.
Write relevant meta tags for your webpage.
Use H1 and H2 tags on your webpage.
Use your keywords with alt tags for webpage images, if any.
Then focus on link building, try to get do follow and no follow links by using different anchor texts.

Tip 2: Only after you optimize your website for on page, go for off page. Promote your website on social media platforms using social bookmarking, social networking, guest posting, RSS feed submission etc...This helps you build a good social media reputation which directly affects your SERP ranking.

Here are some good ways to get quality links to your site.

- Article directories
- Forum posting
- Blog comments not spammy
- Social bookmarking
- High PR blogs not blog networks
- Rss feeds
- Press release
- Web directories

And many other quality one way contextual back links.
