Hey folks,

Ok, well I've literally been around the block trying to get every new wso out on ranking videos on youtube (in particular for local).

Apart from the basics of on-page seo, (which they all seem in agreement with), there's such a wide range of opinion on the offpage element.

What do you do?

Thanks in advance

Colin

The only thing I can say about YouTube SEO is that links on there are nofollow (not that they don't contribute to traffic).
whether they're in your profile or on the video.

I didn't realise that YouTube links were no follow, although it makes sense.

Along with Twitter and Facebook links, but you can't say social media doesn't play a part in SEO right?

Off-site I submit my YouTube RSS feeds to RSS Submit, post my YouTube URL to Twitter and Facebook or have someone at Fiverr get social media links. Then raise the views and likes, I use Vagex but you can also use Fiverr for this. For most local keywords 1,000 views and 20 likes is enough from my experience. Then social bookmarking backlinks should bring it to the front page (Fiverr gig). If not I'll order a link pyramid that involves Web 2.0 sites pointed at the video. If you're still not at the front page your on-page SEO might be off or your keyword is competitive and you probably need to keep building consistent links (I say probably because there are many variables).

A no follow link is one which isn't followed by Google, so doesn't really help with SEO. I'm sure someone will explain it better!

It means the hyperlink has the no follow attribute (rel="nofollow") and it tells search engines like Google not to pass page rank to that link. Some people say they're pointless for SEO and some say they do play a part in SEO.

From my experience nofollow links are valuable and 3 weeks ago I had a client's website go from page 4 to page 1 from only 1 nofollow link (from YouTube). This was for a low competition local keyword, and they were already ranking for similar keywords.

My theory at how that happened is that my clients website didn't necessarily need more backlinks to beat the competition. They just needed to tell Google they were also relevant for that additional keyword, which is what that nofollow link did.

Ok, So should I continue making youtube videos? There is a WSO saying that he made $XXX,XXX.XX Amount of money from just the traffic from Youtube. So, where is the traffic from youtube comes from? How are you going to promote that video? I've seen videos which are 2 or 3 years ago with less than 100 views.

      Youtube traffic is self contained.

My brother now has over 3+ million views in approx. 8 months since startup, only monetizing Adsense on the videos, earning average of right at $50 per day (part time).

Thanks for all of your comments folks. I've just got really ticked off lately with every new video seo wso claiming to hold the keys for what's now relevant, only to discover that they are just pumping out recycled garbage.

    Keep up the good fight!
