PR8 forum backlinks?

Yesterday i was registering on PR8 forums, to put my blog link in the forum user profile and in about me section but my friend told me its useless because its has no PR juice.
He says that domain is e.g. abc.com then this domain is PR9 and you are posting your link in abc.com/profile/Greeks, then its useless...

Now my question is that is he is right it has no PR juice?

  • The site has authority.. but Google may be clamping down on profile links right now so soon it could be worth nothing.

    But yes it is a 'reputable' link because the forum is reputable in Google's eyes.

    Stop linking and write more content for now until this update is rolled out.

    Linking could be a thing of the past (though I doubt).

    • backlinks is the foundation of google, there is no ranking without backlinks. Say me and 10 other IMers write equally good content for the same niche, what decides who ranks on top?

  • But i have seen angela packets, all are profile backlinks but she is still on google top or on second spot.

    • Well, they do have some value - opinion on how much differs. I think the majority agree that in the past profile links carried more value than now.

    on a google profile account it has a pr8 and you can place a link to a website and it is no follow. Surely google considers its own google.com page important.

  • Any algorithms Google uses, backlinks are still counted by Google for the SERP.
  • The truth is, you are not going to see any result for linking your site in the profile area but i can be good for link pyramid when done in bulk.

    It is more valuable to add your link in the signature area and every post you make will be giving you a link juice.
  • Issue with profile links is that they are not index immediately on search engine, If you create link on PR 8 site, its not mean your profile get benefit of PR 8. Better is that you get link from that Page which has PR 2, 3 or more it self.
