Anchor Diversity

I'm kind of curious as to what anchor diversity everybody had before the Google update. If your site did get hit about how many anchors were you rotating per campaign?

If your site did not get hit and actually improved, how many anchors were you rotating on average?

    I do not use anchor text in most cases. I carefully place keyword rich content around my links . All sites stayed where they were or increased in rankings.

      So to clarify you have never used keywords for anchors tags in your content and your rankings improved or stayed the same?

        Some have anchors, but the vast majority do not. My main anchors are the brand name and click here.

      I think that's probably the key to your success. I noticed this was a trend a while back for many websites with high rankings.

      Many natural links really are like: http://www.warriorforum.com or Warrior Forum followed by the description. Lack of branded or generic anchor texts is probably present in many of the websites that are being hit.

        Yup! I figured that out when I used to run a forum (non-IM related). NOBODY did anchor text... not even me. When I post a link on a forum, I am not wasting my time trying to add anchor text. I am just gonna copy and paste the link and go my merry way.

        That is how real internet users are, as well. They copy and paste the link. They dont try to figure out how to use anchor text, and most of them dont even know how to do that.

        In a forum I currently run, I have not seen one person use anchor text, except the spammers that try to come post in the forum - which is another reason I am glad google is doing what they are doing. Maybe people will stop trying to spam my forums and blogs!

          True indeed. Plus 'legit' websites (B2B types etc) almost always link with the Brand or a straight-through links. That leaves anchor text links as the single biggest abused factor that is used primarily by one subset of internet users. (IMs)

    Hey guys sorry for the sloppy list. Ive been preaching anchor text diversity, generic anchor text and URL anchor text forever. Its a huge key to not having your links look spammy. This is what real anchor text looks like. This was taken from Market Samurai searching for GEICO | Auto insurance - Saving people money on more than car insurance. The numbers next to the keywords is how many times that anchor text was found. This is just a small sample of links MS found. Now mind you Geico ranks top 10 for almost every auto insurance term. Not sure what this says but it definitely says something. Oh one last thing, notice how warrior forum automatically included anchor text in my post, I didn't even put it there I just typed w w w . Geico . C O M

    There is not exact number that after x no. of links you should change your anchor text. You can change anchor text after 3-4 links, it will provide you better visibility for your brand and targeted keywords.
