many of us have used seo-ers that used grey and black hat methods - despite their claims - and without our knowledge. if our sites are forever tainted - we are looking at investing all over again on a brand new site and starting over from day one : ( or are all these tainted sites rehabilitational even if all the crappy Bls can not be manually removed?

    Hi,

If bad backlinks really are hurting a site, then anyone can build bad links to anyone else's site and hurt them. This is a bad situation that I'm certain Google is rethinking so I would just wait it out. Continue improving the site and building quality links.

I've bought new domain names and new hosting. I'm moving my content over. My content is good and Google is currently restricting it from being seen.

I used BMR on two of my old sites, so I imagine that Google will always look at those sites as tainted now. I'm not going to sit around wondering if Google will reconsider my sites.

It's crazy. Just because a site used BMR does not mean it's not a good site. The punishments seem very harsh.

Hopefully no one will use negative SEO on my new sites.

should a current/punished website be shut down first for a few days - before the content is moved over to a new domain name?

are you going to change server/host as well?
are you going to change your domain's registration info too?

google gonna cost some of us alot of new money : (

I'll probably wait a week to transfer the content after shutting down the punished domain. I'll make sure that the posts pass Copyscape before I do it. I bought new domain names (private WHOIS) and I bought a totally different hosting plan.

It wasn't too much money for me. Less than $50 for the new domain names and hosting. It's well worth it to save the content, which took me 6 months to write.

Don't do anything hasty just yet. You truly do not know where your site will end up in the SERPs once all the data centres have been updated. Your site could come back a notch, it could get knocked even further or it may remain where it is. It usually takes a couple weeks for the full effect of an algo change to be realized.

If your site doesn't recover and it is a branded type site then you really can't move over to a new domain, unless you intend rebranding. If this is the case then you will have to clean-up your backlink profile and file for reconsideration.

If this is not the case then you can get a new domain (but I will go for an aged domain) and 301 redirect each page on your old site to a new page on the new site. You do not have to wait for anything to happen coz the penalties do not move through the 301 redirect so your new site will be safe.

Quit making drastic, business changing decisions right now based on the latest algorithm "refresh".

There's no way that the algorithm has been fully deployed, and its highly unlikely that this refresh will stay in its current course.

I've never seen the results this bad since Google's early days, full of error pages, tag pages, and even parked domains.

This won't last, mark my words, we will see revisions and changes over the course of the next few weeks, if not sooner.

While this may be some SEO's first rodeo, this is nothing but usual business over at Google. They are constantly tweaking algorithms, and looking at live data to determine what actions to take.

I think we can all agree that the SERP results aren't better after this update.

I wouldn't call this a drastic decision. I realize that I made a huge mistake using BMR for those 3 weeks. It was the only time I ever backlinked any of my sites. I want to distance myself from these sites now without losing all of my hard work. I think that Google will always view my domain as tainted. I won't be doing any SEO in the future and I just want to move on and start over.

I'm sure Google will "settle down" and things will start getting back to normal soon.

Additionally, this shows why it's wise to have more than one site.
