Keyword Density And Page Layout Question

Hey guys,

I usually keep my keyword density at about 0.8% ish but I am a bit concerned about how I structure my posts, this is what I do.

I get a valuable seed keyword, lets call it "how to make icecream" and then research longer tails associated with this keyword (that have decent CPC and searches, lets say "how to make icecream at home", "how to make icecream without milk" and "how to make icecream without sugar".

1) The seed keyword i put in the URL and h1 tags (title) and after the introduction, I put it in h2 tags. (I make sure it flows well)

2) I put each of the longer tail keywords in h3 tags and write about 300ish words per heading.

3) Then I sprinkle the seed keyword a couple times in the body article (normal text)

4) Then I take about 5x LSI keywords from bing and Google and put them in the article (where it makes sense)

Most of my articles are ranking in the top 10 so I guess it must be working but I was just wondering if this was the best strategy, especially with the new Google over-optimization algorithm.

Thoughts?

Looks like its been moved, thank you.

I always write for the reader first, not the search engine. But I can effectively combine both, focusing more effort on the reader of course.

    Any suggestions welcome

    Cheers

Whatever you think you know about keyword density/stuffing, forget it (seriously).

While I agree with you in principle, I am just trying to find the balance between over optimization and under optimization. As I already outlined, my keyword density sits at a fairly natural 0.8% on a 1500w ish article. My point is, I want to rank well for the keyword (so I can earn) while not being penalized for over optimizing.

So is putting my keyword (as shown in my example) in the h3 tags over-optimizing?

      Cheers

Over optimization is a serious issue at the moment and should be avoided at all cost.

My gosh. I'm lucky if I can keep certain words under 2%! It's not that it is deliberate. As an example, the word "health" is used in so many ways when you are writing about health insurance.

Whoops. The reason my keyword density is always at 4% or so is because on the side of each page, the names of other articles are listed. Is that a major no no? Check this page, for example....

The keyword density is pretty lower than mine, I do think you can improve it a little bit more.
