Duplication vs Syndication

Help me out. I am confused about the difference between duplication and syndication.

Can I submit original articles that are posted on my site to article directories without negative effects?

Can I copy articles from article directories and post them on my site without negative effects?

Can I post the same original article to multiple directories without negative effects?

I think the answer to all 3 is yes, but I don't see how this isn't seen as duplicate content.

Thanks,
Aaron

    Aaron,

There are many many posts on this forum which will give you the answer with the majority being from people a lot more qualified than me but here is my take anyway...

Providing the article (content) is 100% your own then you can have it on your own site and you can also syndicate it to directories such as Ezine or better still offer it to relevant sites in your niche in return for a link!

I always submit to my own site first, I then allow it to become indexed naturally before submitting elsewhere!

    Hope that helps?

    Andy

Thanks for the reply. Okay, I see there is tons of information about syndication. A little overwhelming to be honest.

It sounds like the first step in this process is to build up a portfolio on an article directory.

    Is this accurate?

The answer is yes to all 3.

To be honest though, posting to an article directory should be the last step....

Write high quality article-->post on your site-->make sure it is indexed-->reach out to sites/newletters in your niche and offer them the article with a link to your site at the end-->then post to EZA/articlebase/goarticles....

Duplicate content is a term used in the field of search engine optimization to describe content that appears on more than one web page, within the same web site.

Syndicated content is the situation where you have the same piece of content showing up in multiple websites with different URLs.

Syndication is a good way to increase your SEO value and links, you will not be penalized by the search engine for this. Just ensure you have the right to the content and you are done!

Copying articles from directories and pasting them on your site will require permission from the owner usually in a form of add a link to the content owner's site.

There isn't going to be any negative SEO values and you also will not get any positive SEO value because the content as already been indexed and the credit been given to the original site.

People who use content from directories usually do it to entertain their visitors.

If you are looking to increase your SEO effort i recommend you write your own article, you don't have to be a superstar just ensure your content is readable and unique.

Yes, you can write a good content and have them distributed unchanged to thousands of article directories which is called syndication. You will not be penalized for this or get negative SEO but it often helps more when you have different unique content.

Again, a duplicate content is when a content appear more than once on a single domain. If your content appears on thousands of urls once it is not duplicate content but syndicated content.

thanks for your brief reply, Earlier I used to think these all 3 ways are going to create duplicate content and my site ranking would hit by Google Panda. Really thanks to explain everything here.

    One more related question.

Is it acceptable to take a news article, re-write it and post it on your site? Is this considered/seen to be original content or still syndication?

So long as your article is 100% unique, you don't have a problem.

There might be a more recent or even relevant thread where to post this question, but I would appreciate it if someone could correct me if I am wrong as after reading through endless posts (and many opinions) I want to make sure I get the concept of article syndication and duplication right. So here goes.

    Article duplication.
It is the inclusion of the same (word for word) content/article on varous locations (ie. pages) on the same domain. If this is correct, I do not understand what the point of this is. Surely there can be no benefit to have the same thing posted twice or more on the same site. Am I right in believing this is pointless? Or was this a benefit of the past stuffing the site with keywords?

    Article syndication.
Say I have an article written, posted on my site and indexed by Google (in other woeds, I get the credit for having written this content). Now someone comes along and likes that content and copies+pastes it into their own site, refferencing me with a link to my site. Is this a syndicated article?
If so, article syndication is the publication of the exact same (word for word) content on a different site. And depending on how relevant the nature of that site to the topic of my own site, the backlink obtained this way is more or less powerful in Google's eyes.

With this in mind, I can replicate that syndication by posting that particular article on other sites that will let me (people I have contacted, blogs I create for this purpose, article directories, etc.) and therefore get backlinks recognized by Google. Am I correct in assuming this is what is meant by article syndication?

Would this mean that there is a difference between article syndication (using the same article word for word) and article marketing (rewriting the article or just writing another article saying the same thing or related to the subject).

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, but the WF is huge and even with the search option it is difficult to find a clear black and white factual explanation.
