I think the thing that is most upsetting about this latest update is that it seems indiscriminate. Two of my sites that have the most unique quality content got hit the hardest meanwhile I have thin affiliate sites that are doing just fine (or even better.)

I don't really have any idea why some of my sites were hit and others not. It doesn't appear to have *anything* to do with unique quality content though.

I mostly do nothing and hope for the best. Maybe buy a backlink packet once in a while... Because that's what SEO is. Four hour work week baby!

100 Blog comments per week? blog posts with rich targetted anchor texts? That kinda stuff will eventually tank that 10 year domain - a week or a year from now - it will eventually happen. Whether the content is spun or unique it makes no difference.

If you're building links yourself (not waiting around for people to naturally link to you), my general rule is to ignore ANY link or source that is too easy to acquire. That eliminates just about everything you can buy in the WSO/Warrior for hire section, everything on Fiverr and everything that can create and mass produce by the various automated programs.

That leaves you with a few options which I use:

-Guest Posting on Quality Sites (I don't guest post on anything with a DA less than 50, any less is a waste of quality content, IMO)
-Quality General & Niche related Directories
-High PR Links either from paying for them, acquiring domains, etc.
-Press Releases
-Youtube / Q&A Sites

-A strong onpage structure.
-An active social media presence.
-Good/Pretty site design
-Descriptive Titles rather than titles that chase keywords.

If I was you I wouldn't post any sort of blog comments directly to your main website or for that matter profiles, or links from spun content.

It seems linking building has become much more refined, it's more about relevance now, if you have 90% unrelevant backlinks then it can't be good especially if they are high pagerank links. Finding links that are both high pagerank and have site and page relevance is probably the way to go.

It's probably worth building up some quality original web 2.0 sites with unique content and recycling the pagerank. Less is best now, not thousands of links, even for a high competition keyword you would only need 100 or so pr4/5 relevant links to rank well. I would aim to get 100 very high quality links as oppossed to 1000 reasonable links.

I have seen websites with better social profiles on FB and Youtube ranking alot better, so if your going to do alot of seo work, it's probably better to focus on building up these social groups and linking them with nofollow links to your website.

I think a big mistake alot of people made was link consitancy, you hear alot of people saying keep the links going everyday but in reality a natural link profile wouldn't really look like this, perhaps shorts bursts of links 2/3 ever few days and also alot more social bookmarking to internal pages.

As usual it's tough to pin down any single factors. I have completely mixed results from the update. Some are obvisouly suffering from spammy links and BMR links that are no longer with us.

But what's wierd on my sites is many of the pages have lost position (dropped 50+ spots off of front page) on chosen keywords but they are catching a lot more long tail searches. WTF?

And looking at who is seating on the front page now in many of my niches is really insane. I have noticed that Wiki sites have moved up, large old and outdated sites have moved up, and a sprinkling of very bad MFA sites.

So far, other than the obvious, I don't know what is going on.

My only plan of action is I have some new websites that are untouched right now and I'm going to breath some life into them and start testing. They've been sitting for at least a year with a few pages of good content but no linking and no monitization.

I'm not doing anything to my current crop no matter if they were impacted or not until the latest changes settle down for at least a week.

I'm doing the same things I did last month & the month after that...

• Focus on the niche/keywords.
• Build quality content for traffic (not bots).
• Format the pages for both traffic & bots (think Wikipedia page layout).
• Traffic goals are 50% niche forum, 50% SERPs.

I manage 50 sites and can see no correlation between sites that suffered and sites that did not. Only three of our sites were adversely affected, one was a test site for me to try out SEO methods and I believe I went to crazy on the link building. The anchor text signals on the few pages that did severely drop are way to heavy on keywords.

However, we have another site with good anchor text and link diversity and the site has log geo targeted rankings for its landing pages for no apparent reason. Meaning if you searched for keywords + destination, all the landing pages which were previously #1 have dropped and been replaced by smaller mom and pop websites for their respective area. I think Google is being more picky about large sites going after geo targeted area's that they aren't truly in.

avoid the massive backlinking in a short time. it will slap your website fastly.. one of my minisite is decrease in position this month. from no.3 in google to no,7 for now.

I will do negative SEO to my competitors (not sure but possibly) and replace SEO articles with human readable articles including Title, H1, H2 etc. Use more natural anchor texts not just targeted keywords. Implement manual slow SEO practices for my new websites... What else?

I guess, still contextual link building rocks (article submissions, blogging and etc) as well as niche related links. However, we should diversify anchor text a lot....

With the new update, my site and all my clients sites are still doing good.

Using AR and UAW and BI only for all the sites. All sites are for local businesses.

My site lost a few spots on some KWs. still in the top 5 w/c I dont mind.

Hopefully all the BLs will not be affected. I'll be using more KWs for my site and my clients site just to be safe.

^^ yes do exactly the same thing everyone's been doing for the last 2 years. You can't lose!

One thing I think I'm seeing: Almost all of the link outsourcing I've bought on WF has been worse than a bust. I wish I could just say it's thousands of dollars wasted, but it's more like thousands of dollars that did a lot of harm to my websites.

Try to focus on content sharing site in genuine way dont use those sites for getting backlink.
Use anchor text diversity in your link building campaign. Use genuine content on your website, dont stuff your content with keyword.

There is no big change. Content is still the king. While you should decrease the backlinks from forums, Google seemly lower the importance of forum links.
I do think adding links of do-follow blog is much better.

Im still doing exactly the same as a was before tbh. Good on site SEO, but not too excessive mixed with high quality, high pr backlinks and thats pretty much it. Less links but higher quality links is best imo. Works for me 9/10 anyway.

I guess it now comes down to doing SEO the old fashioned way again, getting high quality niche related sites and getting links that way rather than using the more spammy techniques of forum profile linking, blog commenting and so on.

I am still doing what I did before, and that's doing things very slowly, and only doing off page SEO related things now and then.

My results are slower but I haven't had any problems, and if you're going after right keywords then it still doesn't take that long.

I have noticed since update so many sites with 0 backlinks ranking, either full sites, twitter profiles, profile links etc. I cannot see how Google have found their middle ground yet, some of the results are a complete joke.

Very slow, very natural, long term strategy for me.

One of my sites ranked #3 with one backlink, I built it and didn't do anything to it for a month off page wise, then got a good backlink and it shot up.

Also, another big thing I have noticed is EMD's have tanked bigtime and a lot of results are now sites with sub pages of myurl.com/mykeywordhere.html.

Many of these sites have no banklinks and EMD sites build specifically for that one keyword with backlinks and some decent content have tanked. What I take from that is sites that have lots of different pages with different keywords in a related niche are doing very nicely, even torrent sites ffs! kat.ph are ranking superbly since the update.

Also noticed subdomains doing well too, I wonder if Google now treat subdomains as a subpage rather than a new page, probably not but I have noticed sub domains on authority based sites doing very well with little on page or off page seo.

Just few observations.

Interesting stuff, hopefully all of this just blows over soon as I can't see it staying around too long as Google will just be creating more work for them self's especially with the negative SEO that you can now do where if you really want to you can slam a competitors site for as little as $5. Obviously as you guys are well aware If you are in a highly competitive industry and you are ranking 3rd or 2nd you can simply slam a your two competitors website's above you and then you will rank #1.

Obviously I hope people are not going to do this however you know it will happen and then people will be submitting manual reviews requesting google to check there site out which will in turn use up time etc etc. They should just stop making lame changes to the algorithm and let things be ;D

very well said. with the current trend about penalizing sites with spammy backlinks, it will be all about submit competitor's website on fiverr for those really bad 10000 backlinks gig and you have knocked your competitor with $5

-I build manually web 2.0 network around money site with unique readable content,photos , videos etc
-Add some quality link diversity pointing on money site and blogs(only high quality and safe links)
-I start blasting the hell out of those blog , forum profiles,wikilinks,blog comments ,sb (I never point this kind of BL on my money site)
- In the end I add social networks push mixing it with various videos in order to add more link diversity
- crawl and ping everything
-profit

This strategy worked months ago and still works like charm.

Until we figure this all out I'll be doing:

- Original content on various public blogs; wordpress, blogger, tumblr, etc. Followed by tiered linking as usual.
- Buy a few expired or auction sites in my niche. Throw up a wordpress blog and a few original blog posts.
- Occasional press release.
- Make 100% of the links branded, URL, or click here, etc.
- Look for high authority sites within the industry that I can buy some advertising on.

Attach a blog that I add good content to to the same domain name as the squeeze page.

The answer to Estz's question is simple... Promote any search engine but Goggle. Stop Google's monopoly so everyone can benefit from competition between all the search engines again. Google provides terrible search results nowadays (see Warrior forum for examples everywhere) compared to Bing, Yahoo, Start Page, etc.

Google has no intention of providing publishers Adsense revenue very much longer. It should be quite obvious to you that each year Google continues to pull away from their publisher business model more and more. All the revenue it ever provided them was a poultry 15% or so, respectively. Now Google has huge legal problems over their business model (see New York Times article) and search engine monopoly.

The Google corporation has big plans to dominate search and much more, but their plans do not include you no matter how well you obey Google or how often you change your SEO methods to please Google.

There are so many thousands of Warriors who suffer from Google's greed. Show your family, friends and anyone who will listen how Google's search results suck while other search engines return better results with less ads. Spread the word... Bing and Duck Duck Go are better, Start Page offers more privacy, etc. The real reason Google used publishers in the first place was not to make money through revenue sharing, but to build their brand.

Let people know Google has become a dirty greedy corporate monopoly which only returns search results that make them money, and there are better search engines nowadays.

I'm afraid Red Eagle may be right in the long term. I personally like Duck Duck Go. It's going to be hard to get people off of their Google addiction. I've been trying to use Duck Duck Go for my searches but I still sometimes go back to Google by habit.
