How to know if a competitor is using redirect backlinks?

Is there a way to know if my competitor is using redirect backlinks?

I believe G are ignoring sites that use them because it can't be discovered if they do?

Not sure but want to find out if this guy is using them.

    • Yup, go to Ahrefs or sign up for SerpIQ and it will tell if any redirect backlinks are being picked up.

  • Yes, there is a way. When a domain responds with a 301 instead of 200, you know the thing is permanently redirected. Google easily picks this up and google reroutes the backlinks to the new domain. Whether or not 100% of the "juice" remains it not clear, but I know for a fact a lot of it remains intact.
