What Is Your #1 Traffic Source?

Curious to see where others get the majority of their website traffic. I've talked to several other internet marketers and the response always varies.

Also, how old is your site? It tends to add some insight to responses.

Thanks in advance!

Facebook. I've worked hard to build a rapport with my fans and give them useful and valuable information.

The site I promote is 3 years old but I've only been using facebook for about 4 months.

I don't think I can pinpont one exact "top" traffic source as my newest site is purely based of referral and direct traffic. I rely on guest blogging, comments, and good content to create the visitors, so my daily traffic sources are consistently changing.

      Gotcha!

Quick Tip: When you guest blog on other sites, you can really boost conversion rates of those visitors by creating a custom landing page strictly for those readers. it works like a charm!

I've been using PURL postcards with extraordinary success. They bring in traffic of extremely high quality and can be scaled to any height. By far the best method I've found so far and I've tested a lot of different things.

Over 90% of all my traffic and sales comes directly from article syndication in targeted online/offline publications. Whether from my legacy websites of more than 15 years or the most recent of just a few months, this marketing model consistently drives hordes of highly convertible traffic.

About 80% of my traffic, and about 90% of my sales, come from article syndication to places where there's plenty of already-highly-targeted traffic.

I get some search engine traffic too, from my high rankings, but those people buy a lot less, overall, than people derived from article syndication traffic tend to buy, so they're not worth nearly as much to me.

Those figures are more or less constant across my range of 8 unrelated niches. My oldest site is about 3.5 years old, and my newest one about 1 year old.

Relevant sites within my two niches. A simple Google search and some stumbleupon-like site hopping has given me a couple of pages full of potential partners. The Directory of Ezines gave me a few more leads as well, and new ones are always popping up. I drop of a copy at EzineArticles as well; but that is more of an afterthought than anything else. I'm just hoping to pick up some stray publishers with that.

    Hi MarketingMinded!

Quality Traffic for me are WF, Google and FB. Haven't promoted through FB yet. They were just links given to selected friends. But I'm pretty sure it'll send in more traffic if given some focus (like a fan page). My site's 3 months old.

    Thanks!

Various websites in my niche (through syndication).

Some, of course, are better than the others. One website regularly sends me a couple thousands hits a day ... another will only send a couple dozen.

But, in the end, numbers don't really matter as both groups are highly targeted.

Facebook, Google and Twitter - in that order.

Facebook CTR has increased since the Timeline switch and FB ads do much better for me than Google Adwords ever did.

Google always seems to like my content or should I say I work smart to get my content liked by Google.

Twitter used to be #1, but then I became a Facebook addict, after resisting for years. Twitter still does well for me, I just don't use it as often.

Last week, I started using Pinterest. So far, I am impressed and I'm going to keep at it. I got a few leads the first day I pinned.

Oh and I forgot Youtube - I always work the traffic for specific campaigns, launches etc.

      What's "obvious" about that, Tamil?

These days, people are increasingly trying to avoid letting Google be their primary source of traffic. Throughout 2011, many Warriors discovered (some of them to their very great cost indeed!) that a business which has Google as its primary source of traffic is never going to be more than one algorithm-change away from a major accident, or even a disaster. No surprise there, I think?

If you want to be securely in control of your own business, for the long term, then it seems pretty "obvious" that Google shouldn't be your primary traffic source.

The value of discussions like this is surely that they give people an opportunity to discuss other traffic sources to avoid SEO-dependence and, as a result, build businesses that are rather more secure and less precarious.

My #1 traffic source is SEO, especially Google but is just less than 15% of all the traffic that I get. I will not getting a dramatic hurt in traffic if Google change their algorithm and decide not giving value to my website anymore.

Brutal..but true . My two sites have both gone up in ranking across multiple keywords since the update was rolled out. It's just amazing to think about though. People legitimately thought that a long term business could survive solely on a constantly changing search engine.

My number one traffic source in SEO. Been in the game for years, but there is always something new to learn. You'd have to be the Googlebot itself to know the SEO game comprehensively. Also, everybody has a different view of SEO and very often everyone's opinions are widely different. The key there is to find your own profitable way and stick with it. Use other people's advice only in need.

I also do PPC and PPV, but it's not my number 1 traffic source.

I have a handful of successful sites that make me money and they vary for traffic. My oldest site still gets the majority of it's traffic from Ezine Articles and so do a couple of my new sites.

Others I have get traffic from a ton of different sources due to blog commenting, guest blog posts, and article syndication.

I also have a couple sites that get a large amount of traffic from the search engines.
